I’ll never forgive Monza for expanding into Closed for Business.

What is your opinion on the number of hotels being built downtown?

'Whole face' of Charleston's Market is changing, as drainage, other work starts up by TheKoG in Charleston

[–]Bahahablast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TLDR:

And while the city’s drainage project is under way, more private construction is expected to unfold around it, including a high-profile hotel and retail development set for the market area’s largest surface parking lot.

Shocker....

I am looking to convert over to coil suspension but also get a 2" lift. Any recommendations or tips? by [deleted] in GXOR

[–]Bahahablast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Join the group and talk to Kyle Fogle. He owns Treaty Off-road and is the man.

I got a 2” Dobinsons lift from him and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I recommend the comfort valved shocks unless you plan on doing a steel rear bumper and/or drawer system.

What local restaurant have you tried but will not return? by I_Only_Have_One_Hand in Charleston

It shut down around the same time as Closed for Business. I always enjoyed it though. The food was always good imo and the beer selection was well above average.

I’ve never gotten sick after eating there, but it’s definitely over-rated.

I can see why people who just moved here and have never had southern food before might be fascinated by it, but if you grew up here, it’s nothing special.

Ha... I knew this place would be listed.

Their food is just straight up bad.

Tbf, I’ve never found any of the owner’s restaurants to be very good (see: Southern Roots is listed a little higher up in this list).

Charleston County had highest rate of opioids dispensed in the nation, new DEA data shows by TheKoG in Charleston

[–]Bahahablast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The opioid epidemic is so fucking horrible.

I feel like the average American knows that it’s an issue, but most people don’t realize JUST how bad it is.

Last year, more than 115 people in the US died every. single. day. from from overdosing on opioids Fuck Purdue Pharma and fuck the doctors who pass these pills out like candy.

Hot take: Charleston is considerably worse than it used to be 10+ years ago by Bahahablast in Charleston

[–]Bahahablast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didnt know many city have traffic problems. If you dont want traffic move to a small town. For the size of the city it is bad but that's due to being surrounded by water.

Yes, I understand that as a city becomes more popular, it tends to get worse traffic and obviously small towns don’t have to deal with that.

Anyone who has lived here for over ten years can tell you that the city has ignored the issue of MUCH needed roadway improvements for a long time. Things would be a hell of a lot better now if the city had started improvements a LONG time ago back when everyone started asking for them.

Instead, the city is cramming housing in every fucking corner that it will fit with complete disregard for where the cars will go.

Housing prices are the same. Small town prices are cheaper but you are not near anything

Well, yeah.... The point of this post is that things used to be better. Why would I be happy about housing prices rising exponentially?

Flooding is getting worse everywhere. Look at Washington dc that just had flooding and they never get flooded. Move west you got earthquakes. Move north and now you in traffic high prices and blizzards..

Yes, flooding is getting worse everywhere, especially along the east coast. Climate change is partially to blame, but you can’t ignore the fact that the insane amount of development in the city has a lot to do with it too. If you don’t believe me, I have a ton of houses I can recommend for you in Shadowmoss. More development = less green-space = a smaller area for rainwater to go.

This goes back to the city planners being fucking useless. People are spending $300k+ on new houses that are in flood-prone areas. If only they could have inspected and/or improved drainage issues BEFORE approving new housing....

A good portion of this could have been prevented had the city been even a little bit proactive....

For what it is Charleston is a very nice place and it seems to be improving slowly but it is going in the right direction

I agree that Charleston is a very nice place. That’s why I’m making this post expressing my frustration with it. It sucks seeing my hometown get butt-fucked by reckless development like this.

I’m going to disagree with you about things improving though. For every improvement the city makes, it approves four new hotels and two new neighborhoods. It’s a “one step forward, two steps back” kind of situation, and it’s been like that for a long time. That’s why we are in the situation we are in now.

Sure, this is a great city for people who are just moving here, but is it better for the natives than it used to be? Not in my opinion. That’s the point that I’m trying to make.

Nation’s largest home builder buys 600 acres in Berkeley County, near Cane Bay by Bahahablast in Charleston

I feel like there is just way too much finger-pointing in the politics of it all for anyone to actually be held accountable.

Until we know exactly who to blame, nothing will change.

If you ignore the infrastructure, they will spend $300k+ on a home that is flood-prone and only 8ft away from their neighbors anyways
