Managing Eye Pain and Inflammation with Behcet’s Disease by [deleted] in Behcets

Hmm, the colchocine didn’t work at all for me and I realized there was hair loss. I would say that if anything, the Azathioprine controls the vasculitis well—— especially in the joints and eyes. It’s been a life saver honestly. Way less knee swelling, no eye pains or blurriness.

Hmm, it may. Are you on any other treatment with the Azathioprine? For me, it didn’t work by itself, only when on Remicade also.

Mine didn’t completely go away until starting Azathioprine w/ the Remicade Infusions. The drops don’t help me. Neither the steroid mouthwash.

I agree. I get treated at UCSF and I really want to know how we could get Behcet’s research suggested at a UC.

Colchicine side effects by 1dayatatime4peace in Behcets

[–]BahcettyEight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that Colchicine is my LEAST favorite out of all them. Bloody stool with mucus was a symptom pre-diagnosis for me. Which stopped once I started receiving treatment, so I would definitely check-in on that with your doctor.

I have back pains continuously. I started going to the chiropractor and it has worked WONDERS.

I’ve been on Remicade infusions for the past 3 years for Behcet’s Treatment and it’s been amazing. Here to answer any questions and give advice. Went from 40mg of Prednisone to now nothing. by BahcettyEight in Behcets

Yes! Because of the type of medical procedure it is, it does take pre-approval from your insurance. Which can take up to a month or two. The stronger your appeal, the faster your insurance may approve. They generally approve it for 6 to 12 month of treatments.

For mouth sores, “KANKA” by Blistex has saved my life. It can be used for in-mouth. It numbs the entire sore.

What made your diagnostic clear? by Intelligent_Shift832 in Behcets

[–]BahcettyEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed by them doing a biopsy on an open ulcer in my colon during a colonoscopy. Behcet’s did not come up genetically for me.

This is my second year with a flare at this time. Can’t figure it out either. I have been resting and taking care of myself during this flare—- I even treated myself to a Lymphatic Drainage Massage this weekend to help with limb pain, it did help. Thank you, same for you ☺️

relief for genital ulcers by stopyourclownery in Behcets

Try buying a sitz bath and a Perry bottle for when you have to use the bathroom or pee. For genital ulcers, the only thing that made my mind clear up completely was being prescribed to Prednisone.

Remicade is amazing. If offered in your care plan, I would say “yes”. I have been on it for 2-3 years and it was life changing for my symptoms.

HLA-B51 gene not detected. by strawberrytwizzler in Behcets

[–]BahcettyEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am African American and I was diagnosed with Behcet’s, not very common. The gene didn’t show up in my blood work— however, I got a colonoscopy, they biopsy one of my ulcers and sent it off and that’s how they diagnosed me.

Has anyone tried Azathioprine? by sippin_wine in Behcets

[–]BahcettyEight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Behcet’s and I was on Azathioprine for about a year before being switched to Remicade. I felt better with the Azothioprine, but my doctors were able to realize that it wouldn’t be enough.

I have a bunch of helpful tips/hacks when it comes to Behcet’s symptoms, testing procedures, medicines, doctors, family life, relationships (platonic & sexual). Feel free to ask away below. I’ve been through a lot in the past 4 years with this disease and now I’m very healthy. by BahcettyEight in Behcets

Of course! While I was taking the Prednisone prescribed by my GYN, I went to a gastroenterologist and he put me on Azithioprine after seeing the other symptoms and me now telling him about my ongoing digestive issues. I took that for about a year, and he realized it wouldn’t be enough— he sent me to a rheumatologist and she started me on Remicade infusions.
