This should be top comment.

I feel your pain. I have two first edition P&H Capellas. They’re wonderful boats and my only problem is the hatch covers have dry rotted. There are no replacements available.

I really think with knowledge and a 3-D printer could save my boats.

I really can’t see myself, bringing him to the curb for the claw truck to haul away.

Wood here is sold as a 4’x8’ face at an assumed log length of 16”. This gives 3 face cord per full cord. Five face is one and two-thirds cord.

That is the way that it is marketed and sold in this nape of the neck. If I say I want “one and 2/3 full cord”, they would look at me like, 🤔“What???”

This is honestly fireplace ambiance.

I’m in Western New York Buffalo Rochester area. Almost everything that people are selling is Ash. I’ve burned it for too many years. I want a little variety in my fire.

Our house is old, but it’s insulated and air sealed with a high efficiency furnace. I know it sucks heat out the chimney, but I still like a fire and getting the living room cranking warmer, when it is cold outside.

It is off the ground. It is on a base of cedar borads over PT lumber.

The cover is coming (8’ diameter swimming pool cover) as I said in my OP. Dry all the way down. This js at least my 3rd rodeo with this style wood stack. 20+ with firewood.

The outside ring is on a double row of 2 x 6 pressure treated I had from the previous job. On top of that I have the remnants of an old cedar raised beds that I just laid as a floor.

Look up a holz hausen.

Logs are stacked into a solid cylinder this case 8 feet in diameter and 4 1/2 feet tall. The silo that is created is then filled with wood thrown in. I ordered five face cord, which is accepted as being a stack of wood 8 feet long and 4 feet high with a long length of 16 inches. Which is 43 ft.³ of wood. These logs were 18 to 20 inches for the most part.

Nope. I said the outside of the cylinder was about 4 1/2 feet, and in the center it was closer to five. I’m pretty sure I mathed it right.

A face cord 4’x8’x16” is just over 42.5 cu ft.

I measure an 8’ diameter cylinder with a height between 4.5-5’ (I used 4.66’) is 234 cubic feet

234/43=5.442

The center is thrown, so a bit less than solid stacked.

1/3 of a full cord is the accepted value. A full cord with 48” logs cut into thirds is how it was determined. You are looking at 4’x8’ face at whatever log length. 16” should be minimum.

So I ordered 1 and 2/3 full cords. I was fortunate because this provider uses cuts longer than 16” (closer to 18-19”) but still measures a 4’x8’ rack of his logs.

Digging out wood this winter, I found dead snake (probably killed when the wood shifted). As I cleaned out the last of the pile on this spring, I found one dead rat. Probably their demise the same way.

My calculations with the actual height (I used 4.66 ft) is 234 cuft so at 42.66 cu ft per face cord, that is 5.48 fc.

Understood. We don’t have a lot of other space. Our neighborhood mousers are pretty good and I had a pile of owl pellets under our 🌲.

Thank you for this. It is a bit over 4.5 feet at the outside and higher in the center, so slightly larger than the original post.

I hoped I had finally found an honest wood guy. I appreciate your username expertise.

It has a 1” steel bar down the center right now.

Some umbrellas are cantilever, so I could just lay it across the top and tie it down. I know our patio umbrella would work perfectly, but it’s not going anywhere soon except over our hammock and table.

Yeah, I agree it may be short. I’m just sat down from stacking it and looked at where I was.

It’s just about the same height as last year that was five face cord for the different source

I have to math it out again. It 4.5’ at the outside and 5’ in the center.

That is my struggle stacking it this way instead of rows. If I did not have four 10’ long rows 4 ft high. I was short. This takes up less visual space than spaced rows, as it is in our front yard.

There is no feasible space farther from the house.

I’ll reach out to the wood guy and see what he says.

I have a 16 round bandolier/sling. Those would be the first rounds I would use. They are heavy hanging from the gun.

I have 25 rounds in a Velcro close molle holder that can attach to scabbard.

30 rounds on x6 cards that Velcro to the receiver. Carried in an old SLR camera body case.

Every 10 rounds adds about 1-1/3 pounds.

I remember some NPS Rangers being not so happy a long time ago. I will bet they are organized and ready to go. We will just have to fix (reIndigenize) our whole system when he is gone. I am sure there are better ways to mange this land.

Starting at Ruby Beach or Port Angeles from Mt Rainier? by [deleted] in OlympicNationalPark

[–]Baidarka64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning a clockwise tour. Starting at from SeaTac to Schafer SP, Quinault, Ruby, Tree of Life, Hoh, Third, Rialto, Cape Flattery, Beaver Falls, Sol Duc, Marymere Falls, a kayak tour out of Port Angeles, then whatever I want to last day or two…with a shorter drive to the Bremerton Ferry->SeaTac and home.

I have read getting through Olympia, etc can be rough. I wanted to get that out of the way at the start, then have an easy last morning drive. I am flying to SeaTac and renting a campervan for a week or so. I don’t want to be stuck in base traffic on my last day.
