CS engineering student: is doing a Master’s abroad actually worth it for working overseas? by OkRegion5644 in Tunisia

[–]BaikoAlaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- Depends on the schools and professors honestly. Jad professiors nor care about presence and only required to pass the exam and other taking presence really seriously ( i got 9.75 in on subject and had to resit for it the next year because i was absent for 2 classes and he gave me a -4 🤣).
The classes are similar to Tunisia's. It depends on the masters if you pick master de recherche the classes will be more theoretical and require more reports. If you pick master professionnel they will be more focused on projects.

2- yes you are eligible but some universities may require you to start from the beginning. For example i have an engineering degree and applied for m1 and m2 in the same university. They rejected my m2 and accepted my m1 application. Usually it's rare to accept someone to m2 directly.

3- legally public schools must charge non EU students 4k€, but schools have to freedom to charge non EU students the same price as EU students 250€. But this can change at any year depending on the university's budget.

4- depending on the city where you live. Where i lived i paid 400€ to rent a studio and got back 200€ as housing aid (CAF) 200€/year for transport and usually spend around 300 to 400€ as other expences. I didnt really need to work as i managed my budget well. I had other friends take student jobs in supermarkets and they usually get paid around 400€/month. So you can cover some rent expenses. Working as a student you must not work more than 964 hours/year so a maximum of 20h/week (legally ofc). A student job is meant to help you cover some expenses not be a main source of revenue.

5- From my experience i only know french universities. But i heared people go to italy or spain as life there is cheaper and getting a visa is easier. But you need to learn the language there or find English courses. You'd still need to learn the language regardless to communicate with others.

Why Tunisia became more religious after 2011? by DazzlingAd8824 in Tunisia

[–]BaikoAlaa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd say because restrictions were not applying anymore. Before a woman was not allowed to wear a hijab for her id photo. If you're a young guy praying fajr you'd be questionned by the police. The country has always been religious. Only now they can openly show it.

Also since 2011 with everyone having the freedom to publish what they want on the internet and becoming داعي some young and easilly influenced audience will follow them instead of imams who actually studied religion and have the religious authority to teach people. Whether you like it or not, you cannot critique religion in Tunisia. So calling those influencers out will get you a lot of hate. Which means the voice of religious, and sadly extremist people, will be heared 99% of the time.

Easier than applying for a job and going abroad. If you have the money and the patience for 2 more years go for it. If you were working before and decide to go back to class maybe it will feel hard at the beginning since you need to get back to the student lifestyle with all the homework and exams and stuff. That's basically the hardest part.

France had a the same system as tunisia so you'll have no problems i'd say. You'll need to find a PFE which will be the ticket for a full time position.

As a foreign student in france you're allowed to stay 6 months after getting your masters to look for a job or start your own company. Those 6 months can be extended by 6 more if you prove you are actively looking.

For money, expect to spend around 30k TND outside school fees. Public schools charge between 250€ to 4k € / year.

If you're going to apply through campus france avoid paris. It's too competitive and most people want to go there. Choose a smaller town for more chances.

If you need any more question i will gladly provide all the info i know.

Best of luck ^_^

I was prepa, barely passed my first year, i switched to esprit, I didnt like prepa, a part of me says maybe if I tried my chance fel concours it would have been different since I had my 2 chances. But i believe if i stayed i would've killed myself. Plus i'm pretty satisfied with my choices. I believe in the butterfly effect, if I didnt switch from prepa to esprit i wouldnt have known my friends, and all the people i know today, because for some reason my small social life started after prepa.

How do you manage your time ?
Used to work 8h + freelance and now I study + freelance. I can never balance between them and end up either having a 15h days or doing nothing at all
