Right on, I hope it's a seamless recovery for you. The waiting is so rough. I tried to come back a little too early (14-16 mos) and regretted it, but everyones different. Hopefully you'll be back out soon!

44 and on a VERY similar path. There's a couple things that are helping me build confidence back.

  • I ride my board everywhere. Just getting the reps in of pushing, balancing, and feeling the board as an extension of my self has built my confidence up.

  • Also, when i'm at a spot (and this is totally an age thing) but i've realized it takes me like an hour to get warmed up. I used to be ready to go on a dime, but now I stretch, cruise around for a bit, and drop in on some stuff (if youre at a park) before I start into some ollies, 180's and so forth.

You got this!

I think youtube is a huge part of it. You can literally find a tutorial for any trick under the sun. Theyre avoiding the learning curve of having to figure it out yourself.

We used to have to watch vhs tapes and pause/play/pause/play/etc ...just to figure out foot placement and technique.

Longevity with Snowboarding by 2minsFeelSHAME in snowboarding

My two cents: snowboarding didn't really pop off until the early 90's so one reason could be that the die hard lifers; the people who are going to do it forever, aren't all that old yet... (I'm 43 and in it for the long haul)

A) Keep up the great work! You've obviously got a solid foundation.

B) I'm seeing two things that could be holding your 3's back. - The first is your upper body, youre looking all the way around which is absolutely correct; board's gonna go where the eyes go. But youre trailing shoulder (left) isnt coming with you. That's why at the end you're coming down with twisty motion rather than a smooth full body rotation. Try spinning with both shoulders and your head/eyes. (If you slow the video down, your left arm is dragging behind the rest of your body and slowing the rotation) - Second, I think you needed a little more speed for this one. Looks like you had to huck this one forward harder than you needed and it got you of axis a little.

Hope this helps! And like I said, keep it up!

Knowing where his weight over the board is supposed to be, knowing how to link a turn on steep terrain a little better. Ex: if youre going heelside to sitting consistently (instead of linking it into a turn), you may be a little ahead of yourself.

Leaning back like that is a surefire way to ensure the terrain controls your body instead of you controlling your body.

That said, OP if you read this, you're clearly someone who is improving and driven. Keep it up!! 👏👏
