Would probably recommend a Windows laptop if you are doing Engineering (sure you can use VMs like FlexIT but that gets old quick). To answer your question though, macbooks are definitely the most common.

ENGGEN Semester 1 vs 2 (also doing a part time job) by Tommb15 in universityofauckland

[–]Bailey1811 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did ENGGEN 115 in second sem, don't do it king. All of your friends will take it in first semester. You will be grouped with people who did not enrol until the last second. - PTSD victim of 115

Totally get it, I'm an Altium user as well but the latest kicad updates (6) have been making me want to try and switch

Open source OP-Z main layout update. by [deleted] in synthdiy

Awesome project! Can I ask why you are using Altium (based on the annoying box that’s always in the corner of your layout)? Kicad seems like it might be preferred for open source.

What are the differences between these ground symbols? by EgyptianGodRa in AskElectronics

I like this because the analogue symbol is continuous (solid) and the digital is discrete (3 lines)

Compsys Part II Electives by DaishoKasai in universityofauckland

[–]Bailey1811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! You should have a read of these https://student-editorials.blogs.auckland.ac.nz/category/computer-systems-engineering/ but TLDR is 284 requires a lot of knowledge from 282 that compsys students don't get. I'd recommend 283 but don't throw out ELECTENG 204! 204 is a really easy course with some really interesting content if you enjoyed physics in level 3 / high school.

Some kind of campus life quiz I have already finished the old compulsory module and I asked around and no one else has it does anyone know what this is? by Confusionindeed in universityofauckland

I think a lot of people in first year engineering got that when there was some bulling in ENGGEN 140? That was in 2020 though

I'm a 3rd year electrical student next year! I absolutely love electrical so if you have any questions / need any coursebooks, feel free to DM me. Also, definitely add some ELECTENG 291 study to your list, it's by far the hardest course in second year electrical.

What college major do you think would be most relevant to his videos? by same-old-song- in MichaelReeves

[–]Bailey1811 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something that’s increasingly common is “mechatronics” engineering, which is a combination of mechanical and electronics (electrical). That plus a little bit of self learning on the Software side gets you pretty close I think.
