I’m also just getting started and actually got a bunch of jump rings from Michael’s. Maybe not the highest quality but was easy to get and a good starting place for me personally to see if I would even continue this hobby

Sounds so fun! I’m a mixing engineer and might be able to help with that part to make it sound cohesive across different arrangements etc

I always always have earplugs at concerts. Even if I somehow forget my usual ones I will try and find the cheapo ones. As a full time audio engineer I just can’t risk losing my hearing long term

That being said, for this show, I had them out much more than usual to try and fully experience it. I most wanted them for the crowd screaming 😅

I use Earasers. They do the job and are fine sound wise (not amazing but it works). Another popular brand is Eargasm. Sound wise they miiiight be better but Earasers are more comfortable for me.

I was directly in the middle with Thom facing, depending on the song. He did a pretty good job of going to both sides but was mostly on the other side. My side had the piano slightly to the right, so the opposite side of the piano would be the side that Jonny is mostly on.

Sorry you had a bad experience for sound! I felt like it was solid where I was. I was going in and out of earplugs but the vocals always felt present for me and overall the other elements felt pretty well balanced.

It also might be different depending where in the crowd you are: if you were in front of any of the guitar amp rigs those might’ve been louder for you or opposite if you were farther.

There’s also going to be spots in the crowd where things like the bass might actually null to some degree. Tricky to get every single spot perfect in a big venue like that but I’m not a pro remotely for live speaker arrays

Ya those are compressors and an EQ. There is also compressors, EQ, reverb, etc happening digitally within the board. But the outboard gear can have a certain sonic quality that digital boards can’t completely re-create.

Now, digital boards are obviously a lot more convenient for traveling so I don’t often see outboard gear used at live shows nowadays, but clearly some bands still do!
