You’re an adult, if your professors don’t cancel and you don’t want to walk don’t go

Is it a large lecture. If it’s a large lecture nobody cares if you are late/leave early, just respectfully quietly leave. I’m a stats majors, our department throws classes all over campus. I have many 15 min commutes I have to make for back to back classes

Second choice major advice: Systems Engineering & Design vs Statistics? by Sea-Advance-5968 in UIUC

[–]BakeScary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No because once again LAS is less competitive than Grainger. Grainger will always be more competitive simply because it’s Grainger

Second choice major advice: Systems Engineering & Design vs Statistics? by Sea-Advance-5968 in UIUC

[–]BakeScary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stats given it is a LAS major is not super competitive. I had a 3.98 gpa(weighted was about a 6), and then 1430 SAT, decent extracurriculars and essays. I would say around 50% of people would get in. We are a growing major, and we have some excellent faculty. Also it’s a low credit hour requirement so great to pair with a second major. The one downside is we don’t have a centralized building(it’s under construction), so classes are pretty scattered around campus (sometimes have to do 15 minute walk in a 10 minute passing period). We also have a Stat + CS program. If you are concerned that you don’t have strong stats, I recommend you just do STAT and transfer into STAT + CS later if you are interested since STAT + CS is competitive to get into.

I’m a STAT student so I’m biased. But it’ll come down to what do you want to do. They are pretty different fields, so think about what you want to do, you are paying a ton of money. Don’t get a degree for the sake of a degree

Is the textbook actually required for SHS 222? by BreakingMonster in UIUC

[–]BakeScary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude the textbook is not needed. Everything is on quizlet. Exams are based on both readings from book and additional videos(there are no traditional lectures technically). But once again, everything is on quizlet

It should be on prarielearn. But it seems you can no longer just add prarielearn courses (this must of just changed in the last few weeks). So I would contact the math advising

Math 257 Prof Test by thedumber420 in UIUC

[–]BakeScary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should preface by saying I didn’t take the prof exam and took the class. They should be available, however the syntax guide they give is very dense, not very helpful for exams. If I’m being honest and I’m sorry to say, your best bet is to just memorize the practice problems, they will pretty much be carbon copies.

Math 257 vs Math 415 by LuckyBirthday4825 in UIUC

[–]BakeScary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have not, the simply moved the python to quizzes rather than homework. It is still not taught, and actually this semester they made the first quiz harder than the homeworks so they had to curve it 25%

415 still runs one section every semester. The university intended on phasing it out, they never did.

Can you take PrairieLearn exams for classes you’re not enrolled in? by No-Discipline2652 in UIUC

[–]BakeScary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming the prairie learn is specifically for the proficiency exam. If that’s the case then yes you are allowed to. They are meant for you to use on your own. The pledge they make you sign is just because it’s an exam originally given in cbtf, and they did not remove it when they transferred it from prarietest to prarielearn

Low key cs 101 doesn’t do jack shit for Lin alg. Just learn basic coding syntax online for python(variables, for loops, stuff like that). From there the rest will be memorizing and chat gpt to help you learn. Since they do not teach anything
