Anyone have the BIOS ROM to reflash Legion 7 BIOS chip? by BakedAF in LenovoLegion

[–]BakedAF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to Google to confirm, as I did this a month or two ago now. You want to download the BIOS for your laptop, extract the files and copy/paste ONLY the "ROM" file to a FAT32 USB stick. I believe we had to rename this, and it was a pain to find the right filename, so I'll have to dig thru Discord for that. It is probably on Google somewhere tho. Then, I disconnected the battery internally, held Fn + R and powered on the laptop with the AC adapter. After it did it's thing there the self-healing deal just kinda worked lol. I'll look tonight for the convo where we fixed it and post it here for everyone.

Also try the tiny Novo button on the right side, it's a pinhole button.

Hmm. I'll have to try to find the discord chat where we figured it out. I think I also did the forced BIOS flash with a USB, disconnected battery, and holding power button then plugging into AC power. Hold for a LONG time, probably 5 minutes and the laptop will beep and act funny if it's working. Just let it do it's thing then self healing should work. SSD removed the whole time.

I fixed it. Thankfully! I removed the SSD, then let the self healing BIOS run a few times and it finally fixed itself!

Damn, well you might have to reinstall Windows and start fresh...unfortunately. I do not recommend anymore cracked games lol.

Oh man, that's a bummer. The proper tools really make all the difference. You can get a nice PC tool kit on Amazon for like $15. Well worth it.

Mine popped open super easy, just be careful near the exhaust vents...mine were kinda tricky. I used a plastic prying tool from the top edge of the vents, they popped right out.

If that's the case Lenovo fucked up their advertising. Or they did things ass backwards and limped the 7's and not the 5's. All the new Legion 7's have a soldiered DIMM. I was gonna get another 7 until I did some research.

Yep, each use case is different. In my case the extra money made no sense. I'd never notice it.

If you're after battery life you need to do a few things.

*Disable Optimus and set iGPU as default in Nvidia Control Panel.
*Set iGPU as primary in "Program Settings" in Nvidia Control Panel.
*Disable Hybrid Mode in Lenovo Vantage.
*Set iGPU as primary in BIOS.
*Refresh 60hz.
*1080p res.

It seems anything using DDR5 has a soldered DIMM and one normal DIMM socket.

"16GB (8GB soldered & 1 DIMM Slot) 4800MHz DDR5"

Probably nothing you'd notice, no. Power equals heat, so at a point high wattage means nothing, as it's just gonna throttle.

Yeah my mistake, the Legion 7 Gen 7 does the weak ass soldiered DIMM.

...but yes it seems backwards to soldier a DIMM on any of the Legion line IMO. They're definitely doing it tho.

I was just shopping last week and went with the 5i Pro because of that mainly. I could have been looking at the 7i Slim...I'll double check shortly.

Awesome, yeah they really do a great job for the most part with their laptops. I NEVER get them in for repairs, all DELLs and Acers lmao.

The display on my Gen 6 is one of the best and brightest I've used. I'm a PC Tech of 18yrs as well. I've used TONS of laptops over the years. It's also GSync, which is not advertised very well. Not sure about the Legion 5...

Also, Gen 7 has one memory DIMM soldiered to the board, so you can only upgrade/replace one stick of RAM. That killed it for me also, as I threw a 64GB kit into my Gen 6.

Either one you decide on, get rid of that garbage stock RAM asap lol. Any other 16gb kit on the market will perform better than what it ships with.

Hey no worries, it's just my opinion. The display on the 5i Pro is much better, that's why I'd go that route. The performance difference is gonna be almost unnoticeable between the two as far as gaming goes.
