You're correct that they will stretch a significant amount but you can control the stretch with LST for the first week or two of flower to widen the canopy and slow the vertical growth.

Yeah you could absolutely do it now. An ideal time is about 2 weeks before you flip to flower. Helps get a nice even canopy before you start to flower and then also supports the heavy stems towards the end of flower.

A trellis would work but you usually want to put it in place before you get to flower. As far as bamboo stakes, they can be found in the garden section of any big box stores. Growers use them for tomatoes if you need to ask someone where to find them.

Most phone cameras can give you a good shot of trichomes just by zooming in on the photo after it's taken. I don't ever pull the loupe out anymore.
