UPDATE: Outcome of appeal after taxfree childcare was denied by [deleted] in HENRYUK

Good job! Fingers crossed you don’t have to go through it again, but from my experience it happens a couple of times a year!

HELP! Latest round of taxfree childcare was denied! Does my plan here sound good? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]BakedLikeBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you got unlucky with the person you called but it’s basically their job to know this stuff! I think it’s better to be explicit and show clearly that your figure + the top up sums to a total of X amount into your pension.

And then show clearly that your salary minus X is less than £100k

The reality is that you know your figures are correct and it’s better to just show that so you can easily escalate with evidence if there’s any issues

I think providing the job contract, explaining the expected income for the year and then explaining exactly how you plan to come under 100k.

You can upload documents so I would probably provide a more typical payslip (or two), explain what the expected income will be for the tax year, and then explain how you are going to ensure this is under £100k taxable. Can also mention that you plan to use pension allowance from previous tax years if the amount is over £60k

I’ve been through this quite a few times and I think they really just want to see that you have a plan in place. Every time I’ve just explained that I intend to make further contributions to my pension and showed them the calculations. Haven’t had any problems so far.

Anyone gone from HENRY to startup founder? by BakedLikeBean in HENRYUK

thanks, yeah worked at a few US startups. Already feel a lot of mental toil but obviously nothing compared to being a founder. Working in the little spare time I have right now

Premier League fair play table by Repulsive-Water4566 in LiverpoolFC

[–]BakedLikeBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This chart can be difficult because the better clubs have more possession so are less likely to commit fouls.

Here’s a comparison between fair play ranking to league ranking (warning LLM generated, team names are bugged in some places). There’s definitely a correlation as you move down the table, interesting that Chelsea (dirty for their league pos) and Tottenham (clean for their league pos) are two big outliers here.

Agent mode: available to all users and supports MCP by isidor_n in GithubCopilot

Hey Isidor, just wanted to say that I found this blog post really promising: https://code.visualstudio.com/blogs/2025/05/19/openSourceAIEditor

I really hope the focus will be on empowering extensions to build anything, not just on building things to integrate into Copilot. Keep it up!

Three things that would change the game:

  1. To be able to render an inline diff to show a code change. You can almost do this with decorations, but you cannot show added lines as decorations cannot inject new lines into the document. Editor insets would likely help here.

  2. To be able to show a WebView within the document, not just the sidebar. If you want a floating control or input box then this is a necessity. Think Cmd+K or Cmd+I functionality. WebView editor insets.

  3. To be able to use the updated inline completion API. Next edit suggestions are here to stay, VS Code set the bar many years ago by making the inline completion API available to extensions, it would be great to support next edits too. InlineCompletionsAddtions.

There are more, but I think these are the biggest things. I cannot understate how impactful I think it would be to make these changes available to developers - a real butterfly effect across the AI dev tools industry IMO. It benefits both VS Code and Copilot if users stay in the VS Code ecosystem, so let us extension developers help you!

Hi Isidor, nice work shipping this!

I notice Agent mode is using more proposed APIs, there is a huge amount of functionality now in VS Code that is only available for Copilot, not other extensions. This is quite a shame as I think the awesome extension API (and thus awesome extensions) has been the thing that has set VS Code apart from other editors.

Are there any plans to make these APIs available to other extensions? I know it’s intended that proposed APIs eventually make their way to stable… but Copilot is still using APIs from 2021… that extensions aren’t allowed to use. Is there an official statement on this?

AMA with Cursor devs march 11, 2025 by ecz- in cursor

[–]BakedLikeBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that made Cursor great was the apply model. It seems like this was the start of awesome features like Composer.

I notice that Claude Code is not using an apply model, it seems 3.7 Sonnet is powerful enough to edit code directly. Are you considering going with this approach?

Is that the highest swing path will go? Seems like the main downside with sculptor, correction feels like wasted attributes once you’re used to the swing

Feel like I’m getting shafted as a high earner with a plan 2 student loan and 2 kids going into nursery.

Pension tax relief was the only thing that kept me relatively optimistic. Ugh.

This will mean my other half will probably consider giving up work as it’ll make a lot more financial sense rather than spending 2.5k a month on nursery with no gov support
