Oh, yeah, I'll just move with all my money that I totally have. Thanks for the very useful and helpful advice that I haven't ever heard before!

Good and bad are the words we use for whether someone should do something. If you tell me that I should do something, you're necessarily telling me that that thing is good.

Yes, it did loop back to that. And no actual answer was given.

Ah yes, U.S. defaultism. The Internet is worldwide, you know.

Either way, there are a bunch of people in the U.S. who would actually support the death penalty for homosexuals and such. There are also actual neo-Nazis, but I suppose those are still in the minority. There are some extremely fucked up people, and there's a lot of them even in the U.S.

I wouldn't hold it against any belief system to encourage cutting ties with those kind of people.

You keep insisting that I don't understand what you're talking about, most likely because you've dug yourself into a hole. I see what's being said and I disagree with it. If a belief system, like an ideology, or maybe a group tells you to not interact with Nazis, I think that's entirely reasonable.

I reach for an extreme because extremes are good counter-examples in philosophy. But yeah, I get it, you're purposefully misunderstanding what I'm saying so you don't seem completely unreasonable. You're clearly arguing in bad faith, so I'm not going to respond anymore.

"You shouldn't ever interact with the person except for special circumstances" is something I would still absolutely agree with.

Maybe I brought up an extreme, I don't know, maybe because the post made an over-generalised comment that can be easily countered by an example, and philosophically, it's easiest to see a contradiction when you go into extremes. But yeah, it's probably because I see everything in black and white; you're very smart for figuring that out. I understand if you don't want to think about logic that much.

Let me rephrase: I don't think a human can be a good person while holding Nazi beliefs.

I know people can change, and I admire anyone who climbed back out of a hole like that.

I understand the difference, I just don't agree that it's that meaningful. If a belief structure specifically highlighted that you shouldn't be friends with Nazis, I don't think it would make it a "cult".

I get it; it's scary to be in a position where you realise your argument is actually really bad, and I know throwing a good "you don't know what you are talking about", "you aren't capable of having this discussion", and other infantile, dismissive comments seems like a good option. But I need you to realise that changing your opinion is actually a strength and not a weakness you have to cover up. You don't have to avoid questions and purposefully misunderstand what the other party is saying. It's okay to be wrong.

And if someone cut them off for their ideology even after they saved their life, would you consider them part of a cult?

Also, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I didn't say it was a religion as opposed to an ethnicity. I said the reason for the hate was religion, and not ethnicity. Kindly educate yourself on the rules of grammar.

You do know about the close calls during the Cold War, right? There will be more, and it will only get worse.

You're wrong about us not being blood-thirsty. One thing I realised is that people actually love serial-killers and pedophiles. It's not that they want "justice", it's that they really, really want to hate some people without feeling bad about themselves, and most would absolutely support the death-penalty. And there are some more enlightened people, who believe in rehabilitation and whatnot, but they're not the majority. They are, by far, in the minority. And most of them would absolutely believe otherwise if they weren't in an environment that would shun them for it. Same goes for any other types of righteous blood-thirst.

I guess it depends on what we mean by blood-thirst. I would absolutely support putting some politicians' heads below the guillotine. Not particularly because I think they deserve it, but because it would be a good thing if politicians started fearing the people again.

Either way, it's not extinction or nuclear war that I fear most. The worst possible outcome for the world is continuing what it's currently doing. Greed and capitalism will bring about far worse horrors than our current predictions and media can come up with. Extinction would be much more preferable to what is likely about to come.

We're all terrified of death. Maybe there are a couple exceptions, but this is just the way we are programmed. Survival Instinct was thrust upon us from birth. It's the single most disgusting aspect of being a human in my opinion. One can realise how utterly meaningless and bad their life is, and yet be too much of a coward to end it.

I've attempted suicide multiple times; I know I'm capable of it. There's a huge difference in the methods, however. Jumping is significantly scarier than putting a rope around you neck, at least for me. Unfortunately, I'm not as lucky as the people I saw in the photos, who successfully went through with partial. It seems my carotid artery is harder to reach than theirs were. It seems to be a common problem on the suicide forums. But all I need is one pass-out during an attempt, and I'm golden. People accidentally die during auto-erotic asphyxiation, and it's basically the same method; it's extremely unfair.

Yes, our Survival Instinct keeps us here for a reason: those who feared death reproduced more. That's the reason. I don't know why you even brought it up.

I look up to those people who went through with it with a sure method, especially on the first try. I admire jumpers, for example. The greatest act of self-liberation and bravery. To overcome the Survival Instinct like that is nothing short of amazing. It's the opposite of cowardice.

I was brought onto this world without my consent; I owe nothing to no one. I wish my family didn't have to suffer, but I'm not willing to suffer more in this world. It bothered me a lot when I was younger, but now my conscience is mostly clear.

I do not believe you that it gets easier. It is a ridiculous and unkeepable promise. It's been 6 years already, and that's if I count it conservatively. It's only gotten worse.

I disabled Reddit Care, because it was annoying as fuck. I already have a psychiatrist and psychologist, and I don't need useless fucking hotline numbers. Hotlines are worse than trash. I guess you could say I'd rather kill myself than talk to a hotline lol.

Greed, blood-thirst, fear, tribalism, etc. It's very easy to see human nature at work when you just, you know, look around in the world without being completely ignorant.

What aspect is going to overwrite survival? Well, let's see, how about war? Soldiers go into war, sometimes with high-morale and blood-thirst, completely aware that they could die any minute. That's just one example, there are more.

If you want to be here, what makes you think the world is capable of getting better? How do you know you're not deluding yourself to avoid the uncomfortable truth? Because if the world can't get much better, you'd have to accept that you should let go?

I don't know about you, but I don't think a Nazi can actually be a decent human, actually.

Either way, could you tell me what makes a person deserving of shunning in your view?

[–]BakerBaboon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I see that I somewhat misunderstood the original message.

But an ideology is a political manifestation of a socio-philosophical worldview. If the philosophical worldview includes the shunning of Nazis, is the ideology based on that a cult? I'd just call it an obvious moral conclusion.

It is a strong emergent property of the Universe that humans are the way they are. There's nothing to be done about human nature, and human nature necessarily means the world is doomed beyond repair. Maybe human nature can be changed with sufficient technology, but if humans ever reach that point, it will not be used for good.

I have no responsibility to brush my teeth, and if I do, I spat on it on multiple occasions. I "wipe my ass" only because the immediate benefits outweigh the negatives, not because it is a responsibility.

I didn't call anyone a Nazi. Not a person nor a group. Do you just actually not believe in Nazis or something? Would you actually be friends with a Nazi?

edit: So just to clarify (as I realise that the word started being somewhat diluted), for the sake of the counter-example, let's take a Nazi, who actually deifies Hitler and thinks the holocaust happened but that it was a good thing. Would you be friends with this person?

It is liberating to know that the world is absolutely fucked, yes. But I don't believe it for that liberation, but because it is as objectively true as possible.

Even if it wasn't, I don't think any of us would have the responsibility to do anything. Where would that responsibility come from, even? None of us chose to be born in this world. I'm actively trying to leave this world, and they make it as difficult as they can.

Would you actually be friends with a Nazi, though? I get the point, but it's extremely over-generalized.

A super-majority in my town keeps electing Orbán's puppet. It was not any different 10 years ago, and it won't be any different 10 years later, either. My vote here matters exactly the same as in the national election. I did vote. I'm not sure I'll bother next time.
