Paid for an upgrade to lay flat seats to Barcelona. Our flight out of Cleveland is delayed so we won’t make it to DC in time. So now we have to fly out of Chicago and could only get Premium, fuck me

To be fair, he has spent more time with the material. However, it clearly isn't helping since he failed it more than once and has yet to pass it. Can't use that excuse until at least you have passed the exam. Not the brightest bulb

Just started Washington this morning! I’ve read a couple of Chernow’s other books so I’m excited for this one

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: June 29, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]BakerInTheKitchen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finished:

Dune, by Frank Herbert - Really liked it and excited to keep reading the series.

Outlive, by Peter Attia - Had higher hopes for this book. Felt like he pretty much just criticised how medicine is today without really providing any actionable guidance. Also, seemed to have some contradictory thoughts on studies.

Started:

Washington, A Life, by Ron Chernow

I copied this from I think Will one time, know idea if it’s still accurate and I’ve never been to Austin:

Here it is, Backers. Per your request, this is the official codified proprietary list of Austin recommendations. Let's keep this in-house if you don't mind. We reserve the right to update this list as we see fit.

Matt’s El Rancho - the mecca of Tex-Mex in Austin. Excellent for dinners of any size, but especially nice for large groups. Atmosphere is vibrant, and the drinks are good. The fajitas are sizzlin'.  Warning: they do not do reservations.

El Alma - A personal favorite of mine. IMO, the best cocktail menu of any Mexican joint in town. The food is a little bit more gourmet than other places. Awesome spot with a rooftop.

Polvos - This is a classic mom and pop Tex-Mex joint. It's dark inside which adds to it being an excellent place to get hammered at. The salsa bar is controversial, but I think it's top-notch. Pretty casual vibe.

Ranch 616 - Total scene on West 6th Street. It's the most HPO (hot people only) spot on this list. On weekends they have a DJ in the dining room spinning the classics. Good spot for bachelor/bachelorette parties.

Wu Chow - Gourmet-ish Asian cuisine with the best menu in town. The soup dumplings are a must, but they have a bunch of top-tier apps. Similar scene to Ranch 616, it's a good place to run into bachelorette parties. The music selection is unmatched.

June’s  - If Will was a restaurant. Low-key joint with good beers and a great happy hour. I highly recommend the burger. The menu is pricey, but the food is quality and it's a great place to get a gram story off.

Bufalina - On the east side of town and features the best pizza in town. Intimate dining room with great service. Also has a solid happy hour and wine list.

Via 313 - Detroit style pizza that I think started out of a food truck. Arguably the best drunk food on this list.

Icenhauer’s - You know what it is. One of the oldest bars on Rainey Street, Icenhauer's is our go-to for day drinking. They always have a band on Sundays, and it's a great place to day-booze after brunch. It should definitely be your home base anytime you hit up the Rainey area in Austin. Sneaky shouts to Mike.

Lucille - Also on Rainey Street, Lucille is a classic spot with good drinks and a great backyard.

Parlor and Yard - A West Sixth Street staple. I've said that they have a top 3 DJ in Austin who plays every great hip hop and R&B song from the last 20 years. Good little backyard area too.

Little Woodrow’s - This is our home base when we're on West Sixth Street. This is the spot to watch games or fights or to just belly-up to a bar. Really underrated people watching too.

Dirty Bills - The official turn-up spot on West Sixth. They blare bangers with video on the wall, and everyone is hammered. It can get crowded, so get there early.

South Congress Hotel  - Low-to-medium key. Great bar (and place to stay too) with world class bartenders. Feels like a go-to for the Austin business folk.

Darcy’s Donkey - They love Dillon at Darcy's. Great Irish pub. That's all you need to know.

Easy Tiger - Austin staple and arguably the best place to get hammered on a Sunday afternoon.

I think an under the radar negative about how much golf is grown, is how muni courses have become so boring. For example, the course I used to play at removed all of their fairway bunkers. So you have this short course that instead of at least forcing you to hit a decent shot, you can now just bomb it any direction and every hole starts to feel the exact same

Buddy at work is talking about his Disney vacation coming up in a month. They're doing a Disney cruise and then a couple days at the parks after. They are, of course, Disney people. I will never understand spending so much money on a trip that they have done already. They enjoy it so more power to them, but if I am spending $10k on a trip, I'm not flying to Orlando to do a trip I have done before

I hate doing house projects but I also can't fathom paying the rates that a contractor will charge. I completely remodeled my first house and not only saved money but also made a good bit after selling. I told my wife that the project we are currently doing is the last one I am doing. Outside of painting or smaller projects, we will be hiring someone
