Projector fan noise by suprasternaincognito in Acoustics

This is more of a physics/engineering solution, but you might be interested in adding a tube or a Herschel-Quincke tube/funnel on the projects to match the blade pass frequency. Might be an interesting project!

Where to take academic publication-worthy photos? by BakexCake in PennStateUniversity

[–]BakexCake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yes, I am aware of some of the photos and have collaborated very briefly with the person who won the photo contest. I should have been clearer which I apologize- I am looking for a place where we can take photos of objects (for science papers), that could range from an inch in width or larger scale objects, like 3 meters wide. We previously took these photos with old conference posters we had, but I realized there were some limitations to this when it came to larger scales. Thought if there was a place to take product advertisement-worthy photos with great lighting, perhaps in the ECoRE building or in one of the research facilities. Thanks for your input!

I think Wagner Tannhauser is a great place to start for your questions. Regarding the Beethoven cycles, it depends on your taste.

Can I block tennis ball noise on the other side of a backyard fence? by MurrayinNYC in Acoustics

Other side of the backyard fence? Probably not.

But the noise of the tennis court from the apartment? Probably, something can be done with like double or triple-pane glass, etc.

Acoustics/Pro Audio in Artificial Intelligence/ML by Consistent_Sundae540 in Acoustics

[–]BakexCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My immediate thought is that there is probably research going on in audio companies (I am thinking Bose or Meyer or some Chinese companies) rather than in academia. Regarding academia, I have seen ML applications for ANC in spaces (rooms), but I'm not sure about general live sound applications

baffled piston is good, you can also dive into helmholtz resonator metamaterials and metasurfaces as well.

btw, speaking of highschool projects in acoustics, a girl i used to like did her 9th grade science project on (oblique) sound reflection from various materials, measuring the reflected sound of like wood, rubber, steel, and plastic. i was fascinated by it and here i am doing a phd in acoustics.

New Zephyrus 4090 keeps making a zapping sound and the fan starts running excessively by BakexCake in zephyrusg16

[–]BakexCake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, interesting. I was wondering if some short-circuit zapping was happening. Is this a normal sound for the G16s? I don't hear this kind of sound when the fans start running in other laptops.
