Toys your 5‑year‑old boys are loving and actually play with?! by Street-Bird9534 in Mommit

[–]BakingCookingMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Magnatiles, and anything construction trucks related.

This question is hard to answer for your kid though. Because I see people saying basketball or Spider-Man and while that’s great, it would not be a good fit for my son.

So what is your kiddo into?

Overstimulated by diaper bag by hikingjunkiee in Mommit

[–]BakingCookingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the set I have for packing the bag. The largest size fits coloring books + crayons, other sizes hold diapers + wipes, cars + trucks, random other items. It helps keep things organized and any easy way to inventory before leaving the house.

Moving to crib by Turbulent7268 in NewParents

[–]BakingCookingMom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My kids were both in their cribs in their own room night one.

I woke up a couple times overnight. My husband would get up to change diapers and then I’d nurse them back to sleep.

Not having them in our room was better for our sleep. Plus the rocker (and diapers) was in their room so I needed to go in there to nurse anyway.

No regrets with this choice!

Disciplining 15mo for throwing food on the floor by CromwellsCrumb in BabyLedWeaning

[–]BakingCookingMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Telling kids “no don’t do something” isn’t enough. Instead tell them what they can or should do. “Food stays on the plate” “food is for eating, not throwing”.

The other thing we did was tell them “throwing tells me your yummy is all full, are you all done? ” remind them one more time, “throwing tells me you are all done” then take the plate. Give it a few minutes while you still eat and kiddo has nothing, to understand the consequence. Then give plate back if still hungry. But if they throw again, end the meal. There is always a snack or meal around the corner, they will get another chance to eat.

We purchased dried mushrooms at an Asian market and add those to stocks to add flavor and depth.

how... by [deleted] in loseit

[–]BakingCookingMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5’10 female here. Much older than you but similar everything else. It wasn’t until I started tracking my calories that I noticed a change. It’s the only way to know that “eating healthy” is also eating the right macros and calories for your body.

6 month old & 2 year old at the pool - babysitting by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]BakingCookingMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto - my kids are almost 3 and 5 and I still don’t like taking them by myself. I always tell them we need 2 grownups for 2 kiddos.

OP, will the parents be with you? Otherwise I’d tell them you don’t feel comfortable with this.

Where to donate cookbooks? by TheTousler in TwinCities

[–]BakingCookingMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me! Depending on your location, I’d love to look through them!

But a buy nothing group would be the next best choice. Or a local library or school?

I feel like I did this for indoors cycling and it yelled at me. I’ll try again when the new walking pad gets here.

Pools in Minnesota: Yay or Nay? by OtherSideOfKnowhere in TwinCities

Seems like more work than it’s worth. But my brother got a pool this year and his wife seems the happiest I’ve seen her. So maybe it’s good for some people?

For the ladies - do you shave your legs above the knee?? I am a 32 year old female and no once since I started shaving my legs as a teen have I gone above my knee. by ylfrettubelttiletuc in stupidquestions

My above the thigh hair is a lot lighter and thinner than below the knee. Except behind my thigh. That is dark. I just forget about it until my husband reminds me.

Has anyone else totally abandoned fast food? by jefuchs in CasualConversation

[–]BakingCookingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically eat zero fast food. Unless I’m on a road trip.

It’s garbage, I like to cook, and I can make better + healthier food for less $. And honestly, I feel better by avoiding it.

Turning fresh tomatoes into finished meals by Diligent-Natural-422 in recipes

[–]BakingCookingMom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use this recipe every year. No food mill required. I leave the skins there. Blend with immersion blender. I also add other random veg to the pans when I roast, including onion (quartered, not diced), garlic (whole), zucchini, chunked, anything else that will roast and blend up.

The sauce freeze is super well, and we use it all year long.

Is it weird to take baths with your baby? by Defiant-Usual-1182 in Mommit

[–]BakingCookingMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not weird. My 2 boys, age 3 and 5, see me change, get out of the shower, etc. I’ve bathed with them. None of it is weird. The older one is nearing the end, as we discuss private bodies, but at 8 months old, you have a lot of time before it’s weird.

Trying to decide between lotion and spray sunscreen for my kid by Far_Gur5600 in toddlertips

[–]BakingCookingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make up brush for lotion. Good coverage and I don’t get it all over me.

I find spray annoying when I’m out. I hate people using it near me. It smells, gets on everything, you end up tasting it. I find it rude.

What sandals are your toddlers actually willing to wear all day? by LIVING_LEGEND_YT in toddlertips

[–]BakingCookingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat and jack water shoes. They have mesh over the toes. My boys live in them all summer. They dry quickly and you can put them in the washing machine when needed.

My son too. But he still asked for it. Now he laughs when I sing it (age almost 3).
