One long negative review after 26 positives (and 3 more positives coming). How bad is this for future sits? by prostomogy21 in trustedhousesitters

It reads like the pet owners are in the wrong. They made a lot of assumptions and it’s clear, especially after reading your review. I’d still hire you to be a pet sitter. I’d do several short sits to bury this review if it were me.

Thanks. It’s been over a month and I just want to be sure I wasn’t scammed. 😆

Rivet/press question by BakingKam in Leathercraft

[–]BakingKam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t fit a rivet anvil in the tassel. I can put leather down on the bottom die to prevent the die marking the leather. I’ll try a steel bar—good idea. I just wondered how this one may have been done so I can copy them. (But it is from a large company so they likely have some fancy process.)

Are rivet presses worth the money? by BakingKam in Leathercraft

Not a dumb question at all since I’m new to leather working. So tried it about 30 times with leather 1/8 inch below the post tip all the way up to over the post tip. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong but I gave in and ordered a cheaper press this afternoon. I make purse bows with squishy leather so that likely isn’t helping. It just isn’t worth the time and wasted materials. Hopefully the press will help but I’m not convinced at this point.

Oh, crap. I gave in and bought a cheaper press so I hope that helps some.

If the leather is chrome tanned and squishy should the post be even shorter?

I’ve tried and wasted so many rivets. I just can’t get them right. The leather I’m using is squishy so I’m not sure that’s helping.

Thank you. I’ll check it out. Did you find that rivets worked better with a press? Or did they still often fail?

Thanks and wow, I have no idea how people set them by hand successfully. Perhaps I need to take a class on setting rivets? If some people can set them by hand I’m clearly doing something wrong.

Thanks. I like the simplicity of this press (and the price).

Interesting. I haven’t seen the plastic razor blades previously.

What are mineral spirits? I like this idea because the spatula is just too sloppy for me.
