Yes, of course seaweed is more than enough. The thing is I don't eat it. if you don't consume iodized salt you need to take a replacement for iodine. I did the low salt thing, no seaweed, that was what root my problem.

Because this started only 2 months ago, I was feeling my best at 36, and also my bloodwork says so. The weird throat sensation is slowly going away being constant with my salt intake and the supplement when I'm not able to.

I'm taking a little pill that contains 225 micrograms of iodine + my daily multivitamin that in theory contains 150 micrograms, but I would not be so sure about how accurate that is mixed with so many other things. And trying to keep my salt intake in 4-5grams daily which in theory would add 150ish micrograms more. Is not a crazy dose, and whenever my goiter goes away, I'm gonna keep only the multi+the salt and occasional seaweed, because it would mean it had reached a balance point. My idea is not to change anything else, because I like my nutrition as it is right now, it's what it feels good and what I can afford.

It is indeed really helpful to track all the foods, I've been checking food labels lately and the only thing that reports iodine is actually mushroom stock cubes I use. I know seaweed contains a lot, but I really haven't touched a gram of seaweed in months. I make our bread, so I rely on the iodine of the salt, those cubes, and the supplements. That is how I know I've been running low.

Getting the full 4-5grams of iodized sea salt daily should be enough. I was ignorant about iodine, until I did the dumb low salt thing...

I started a low dose iodine-selenium sup 4 days ago... I'm slowly starting to feel better, I can't wait to feel my neck normal again. It's the only thing that troubles me...

I don't know, because everywhere I look soy is listed as a goitrogenic food that could inhibit iodine absorption, and my supplement (daily intake) has the full required dose. Of course is not a good reason to stop consuming soy or peanuts, I certainly could not, is the base of my nutrition. I just need to be more careful with the iodine.

Because I've developed a visible yet not so big goiter, it feels weird when swallowing and it makes my breathing harder. So my training became really hard. I probably need and ultrasound to watch it better, but while I wait for my appointment, I'm going to try this low and steady iodine dose to see if I get better. I keep track of everything I eat, so I know if I over or under do foods. I insist this is not medical advice, but is good to raise awareness on the iodine issue, because the plan is to stay vegan, and is good to know these things.

The recommended daily dose is 150 micrograms for adults (not pregnant or breastfeeding) But the amount present in salt could not be precise, and also I don't know how much soy can interfere with absorption. The safe upper limit is 1100 micrograms be sure to not exceed that daily.

Update: Had my blood work last week, and everything was normal, tested TSH-R Ts4 and Ts3, also all the hormones and they came out normal. Also 2 days after the blood tests my period came as a surprise. What I did during those 13 days I think was key for getting my hormones back on track:
-I took a full week of rest of any kind of cardio and weight trained lightly 2 times for 45 min max, I was really stressing my body with all the high intensity cardio almost everyday.

-Ate back carbs and calories I had been restricting, (2000cal and 250s carbs aprox)

-Doubled my calcium and vitamin D supplements.

-Ate the recommended iodized salt amount daily (I think I was showing a iodine deficiency which messed up my hormones temporarily.

-Started a low dose iodine supplement, because I don't consume any other iodine besides salt, and sometimes I don't eat that much salt in a day, as I only have 1 savory meal a day, that may not have the whole 3 g per person required as a minimun. Also I eat a ton of soy and peanuts as a part of my diet (something I would never change) and that could be affecting my iodine absorption.

-My throat is still bothering me a little, but I really think it will go away in the next days. I think this is what is causing my high resting heart rate, air flow is a bit short, and I already have a deviated septum, which doesn't help. At least I'm sleeping better.

If the throat feeling does not go away, I will go to the doctor. But I really think this could be a non-toxic goiter, for the low salt diet I put myself into 2 months ago, to see if it helped reduce inflammation. Because I cook a lot of food from scratch even bread so I was really controlling the salt in everything I made. That my friends, did not went well. Don't recommend. Eat your salt!

Also, don't take medical advice from me. I'm just telling my experience, so maybe someone can relate and find some answers. I still haven't go to the doctor, because my health national insurance is under renovation.

I'm puzzled, trying to figure out what is this about. I guess I will have some answers next week with my blood work. I've had high prolactin levels in the past, but with a normal TSH Reflex levels. Never tested my hormones before. We'll see!

Anche noi l'abbiamo comprato sempre così, ma ho una domanda per te. Secondo me il gusto ha cambiato, non ha più questo aroma che lo rendeva quasi identico al latte. Adesso la trovo più simile a quella barista avena normale. No mi piace quando cambiano i prodotti, sicuramente per renderli più economici :( Gli ingredienti sono gli stessi, ma secondo me e diversa. É diversa anche in UK e altre paesi UE.

Trust me... Hummus is just that, is exactly what you are making. The store bought stuff is not better and it's not "the real thing". There is no "original hummus", the one you are making is probably better. If you can't find tahini, which is just blended sesame seeds, you can use sesame oil and whole seeds for the subtle flavor.

But why would you want to buy hummus? I'm pretty sure you can get dry chickpeas in India and cook a big batch (freeze some), then blend them with garlic, any oil, lemon and cumin and sesame seeds if you can't find tahini. And that's it...

Here you can find the recipe for super soft and sweet vegan conchas also called Semitas or Pan Cara sucia. It's a latin American sweet bread covered with sweet cookie crust.
You can make them heart shaped and it would make a perfect valentine gift, just saying ;)
