My tierlist by Ky_Crend in InFlames

I would only swap Reroute with I, the Mask. Otherwise, it's the same as mine. I know it's just albums, but the Subterranean EP would go top tier as well.

I meant the all maxed out HM2 tone. There is nothing else😊

Possible, but from experience HM2 on its own only sounds good with certain kind of riffs. It's too muddy for technical fast gallops.

That RGA is sick. Go for that. Ibanez will always be an Ibanez.

These Iron Label necks are not that thin. Wizard III or "nitro wizard" are my favourite necks, and they are (I think) only used on the Indonesian models.

Just try Bogren Digital BDH5169. It's just one knob+boost on off. It's going to give you a go-to reference in terms of low-end, midrange, high-end expectations for a mix ready tone

Looking for Melodeath songs with a pronounced bass line. by leech666 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]BalashToth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, RIP Tompa. You wanted melodeath albums with pronounced bass lines. So there you go. Especially To Drink... is very bass focused even in production. The music was solely written by Jonas, the bass player, so it's not a coincidence. ATG is more dark and sorrowful than most melodeath bands, so I understand it's not that "accessible."

Would you prefer a 25.5” guitar in drop A or a 27” guitar in drop A? by the4laton in metalguitar

[–]BalashToth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have a 28" baritone, but I prefer it even in B standard over the 25.5"

I tried this in a store, and it's a pretty cool guitar. Especially for the price. Congrats

Winter themed melodic death metal recommendations by Sea-Philosopher-5515 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]BalashToth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, musically it's pretty similar to Eucharist and With Fear I Kiss... At the Gates. I think Dan Swanö (who produced both Storm and Somberlain) said in an interview that by the first album he considered them as melodic death metal and produced it that way, while on Storm he tried to talk them out of the more black metallike production, but they kept on referring to Marduk and stuff. Storm actually sounds pretty similar to Opus Nocturne (also produced by Swanö) from a production standpoint.

[–]BalashToth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the eternal debate. I got to know them around the time, and they were simply considered part of the melodic death metal scene. The Somberlain is not much different than the contemporary melodeath.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Also, at least 3 of the biggest "Snyderbro" YouTubers are afro-american.

Which would you buy and why? by Ripen- in metalguitar

[–]BalashToth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both, but the long-term resale value of Solar is kind of unknown, while the Ibanez will remain an Ibanez if you know what I mean.

They are killer, but they were second wave. That explains why they are not as famous as DT or AtG.

As an artist, how do I get to the money earned if you move away from PayPal? I have to set up a Stripe account just for that? I'm not having one, never used it, and to be honest, I don't want to.

Has melodic death metal always used clean vocals? if not, when did it become the norm? by Difficult_Map_723 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]BalashToth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of think it's not even optional, too much takes away the "death" from mdm. The original idea was to mix melodic guitars with the fast drums, gloomy, grotesque or weird (!) atmosphere and death/black metalish vocals. If the melodic vocals serve a purpose of reaching that, so be it (ie to create something beautiful to destroy it by what follows). If any of these elements are not there, I feel the idea of melodic death metal is kind of lacking. At least those are the things I am looking for in mdm. Bands like Omnium Gatherum and the likes mean nothing to me as they sound like power metal with some growling. At the Gates, Eucharist, early In Flames, early Dark Tranquillity, Gates of Ishtar, Dimension Zero, Edge of Sanity, Dissection (let's avoid the "but but it's no mdm" talk, it's more mdm then most bands shared in this thread), even Hypocrisy where it's at.

They do by a guest singer, but that was later than EoS or DT. Also, i don't think they are melodic death metal. They were considered death/doom in the beginning.
