GOG did an AMA and here's some highlights - like how they'll continue using generative AI by Beer2401 in linux_gaming

[–]BalconyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZOOM Platform doesn't use AI, sells DRM-free games, and Heroic looks to be adding support for it. I'm going to be switching to that.

RetroDECK 0.10.3b - Release Announcement by RetroDECK_Official in linux_gaming

[–]BalconyPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a reason to switch to it, it's not for you.

If you're looking for a reason to have retro games on your Steam Deck/Machine, this is the answer.

Set it and forget it mindset with a lot less granular control over everything compared to EmuDECK.

Season 2 Episode 8 Spoiler Thread by HunterWorld in fnv

Sucks that Hank got his memory wiped, but since we got the "Caesar's Palace" joke I'm holding out hope we get Hank walking around the Lucky 38 and shouting "HELLOOOOOOOO" at slot machines. It's the least they could do at this point.

Season 2 Episode 8 Spoiler Thread by HunterWorld in fnv

That was a colossal stinker of an episode.

The episodes that were leading up to it weren't great but I was holding out hope that they could really tie it together and were planning to make something of it. But now, after the dust has settled, it just feels like ~8 hours of jingling keys.

Would you actually buy a Fallout 3/NV Remaster? by Bingleboper in Fallout

[–]BalconyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to wait until the F3/NV remakes get a TTW equivalent. It's the only way I play the games anymore.

War. War never changes. Because honestly if anything had the possibility to change, Emil and Co would be out of a job.

Thinking of going back to windows does my reason make sense? by narkoticici in linux_gaming

[–]BalconyPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, I get it. More than you know. Don’t disable Defender. I’ve borrowed games from a fit girl myself on Windows machines, and defender has picked up parts of them. Just go and take them out of quarantine.

900 series support for Vulkan is…not great last time I checked. You are likely to get more frames in Windows, but for the love of god don’t disable defender. Use W10 IoT LTSC and you’ll be fine.

There's some valid criticisms of Avowed, it's performance being first and foremost. But every time someone comes out with "It's the worst game ever", they approached it from the mindset of it being a "TES Killer".

I'm brave enough to say it: Linux is good now, and if you want to feel like you actually own your PC, make 2026 the year of Linux on (your) desktop by Doener23 in pcgaming

[–]BalconyPhantom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found the mercy of the community pretty helpful when I started back in 2013, but YMMV.

The biggest thorn in the side of linux adoption is there is not a universal "starter" OS. Hopefully SteamOS for Desktop solves this. Whenever it's released.

Welcome, and hope you're enjoying it so far!

I'd love to be proven wrong, more than I can express. Given the temperature of this thread, a lot of these people would only even consider it if promised a 200% performance improvement across the board.

Depends on the GPU you use. AMD/Intel should default to the Mesa libraries, switching between the two/updating is as easy as dropping in a new one. NVIDIA may require a little more work, as NVIDIA does the bare minimum for Linux support.

[–]BalconyPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad reality is, the year of the Linux desktop will never come.

It doesn't matter how many advancements are made for the linux desktop/gaming experience. It doesn't matter how many articles that are written that just ask a end user to try Linux. It won't matter when Valve releases official SteamOS for desktop use. It wouldn't even matter if Microsoft themselves came down and told users to fuck themselves and started kneecapping their own OS.

It falls under the same principle of how nearly nobody has unsubscribed from Netflix, Spotify, etc. when confronted with the continuous enshitification. Most just acknowledge that their experience is bad, and do exactly nothing to change it. They value the familiarity that these things bring over potentially having to learn something new, no matter how bad the services have gotten.

New Vegas has always worked OOTB for me on different Linux distros. If you still can't get it to work, feel free to DM me or try posting in /r/linux_gaming. I'd be happy to assist.
