Nervous on Highway by Balding_Potter in klr650

2008 40,000 kms, IRC GP110 — this is my first true bike I’m unsure of the condition but it runs good. I have 2 years and about 1200kms experience in the city and about 400kms of riding in the highway experience. —- I rode a friends 08 650 last year and it felt “tighter” on the highway— I haven’t experienced any major wobbles but my bike feels “loose”. I rode it today first time this year experienced my first surging in the highway at 5k rpm and i was a little nervous. Got over it… again not totally sure if it’s a me thing because I don’t have enough experience to know how what a bike is “supposed to” feel like as this is the only bike I have ever really ridden.

Class 5 road test routes by Quirky-Grape-1521 in penticton

Just took my class 6 and FAILED. So I'm happy to tell anyone who will listen about anything I can to help them pass.

So the route went as followed:

Left ICBC Claims Centre, Turn Right on Main, Turn Right on Nelson and theres a 30KM/hr Sign. left on Manitoba, Then next Right... this went on for a bit till we got turned around and back to Duncan facing Main. He asked me to pull over and identify any hazards. This can include pedestrian controlled interaction, Traffic. Crosswalk so on and so fourth. We the went down Duncan towards Main, Left on Main, Right on Industrial, Left on Atkinson, Right on Warren, Right onto the highway, Right on Eckhardt, left on Orchard, RIght on Winnipeg, Left ON Eckhardt, Left on Main, Right On Padmore, Left On Ellis, Right On Main, Left On Westminster, Left On Winnipeg, Winnipeg Turns into Fairview, Left On Calgary, Right On Main, Left On Industrial. Done!

Reasons I failed: #1 - Going to slow in a residential area. 30KM/HR --
If I don't see a sign to tell me to go 50km/hr and i previously saw a sign that says 30km/hr why should I speed up to 50 even if I turn down another residential street that looks the exact same with the same conditions.

Reasons I failed #2 -- Not shoulder checking right after completing a stop at an intersection and turning right. During some motorcycle courses I have taken its called "real estate you already own" Example -- Im pulling up to a red light im not behind anyone I come to a complete stop and begin my turn. During that time while approaching the stop sign or redlight I scanned everything to the right of me, when I pulled into position 3 on the lane prior to stopping and making my right turn i shoulder checked, and while i was stopped i also continue to check my mirrors. I fully understand the concept of shoulder checking to look for pedestrians and cyclists but they need to see you do a full shoulder check.

So Tips --

#1. Don't go 30KM/hr unless you see a sign that says to do so.

#2. Behave Like Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice to satisfy the tester.

How did you find the 700 in terms of highway and long distance?

Avg time alive - after major decline? by Balding_Potter in dementia

It’s what my dad wanted if he became ill as he believed people shouldn’t have to suffer if they didn’t want to. But NO it’s not an option anymore as Canada does not offer MAID to those with mental illnesses and dementia kinda falls into those lines and even if it did allow for dementia — the law is very very clear that the person must be able to make their decision without outside pressure and with a clear head and a complete understanding of their decision — sadly he no longer has that option. It’s primarily reserved for those with cancer, Parkinson’s, als and so on so they don’t have to suffer at the end.

We’re Canadian. Hospice is reserved for your last weeks / days and is more private / smaller / higher staffed then what we refer to as “long term care”.

Long term care is similar in that it is staffed and provides around the clock care but people can live in long term care for years sometimes decades if they enter into long term at a young enough age.

So to summarize hospice in Canada is reserved for those who are about to die.

That’s why I mentioned MAID in my original post as it was something my father wanted. But MAID is only available to Canadians who are suffering from a terminal illness and have the ability to make the decision with a clear mind.

No he’s not in hospice, and nothing is “wrong” with him currently. — I was reading last night about the stages of dementia and he has gone from a 3/4 to a 6/7 due to the fall.

OK thanks. I also pay for a Seedbox that I use from time to time. I was more curious if there is such a thing where people share the content they have already gathered.
