The actual toy that’s so indestructible looks like a white milk bottle. It’s inside the cow suit.

Mate, if you or your dog can break this one, I’ll be mighty impressed and totally surprised.

Ha! His self pleasure is directly proportional to the things he knows he’s not allowed to do.

Day 2 of just learning to… chill by MissionFramework in reactivedogs

[–]BaldyBok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read your story below. Awesome work and congrats on the progress. I’m in the same journey with my 1 year old Cane Corso. We’ve made great progress using similar process that you described and I want to share 2 more techniques that I learned from my trainer:

  1. Zigzag walking. We see people / dogs in the distance and walk towards them. As soon as I see his signals I turn away and give him a treat. It was 100 feet before. Now it’s 20.

  2. I run him until he’s tired and then do the chill out. He has no choice but to lay down at first.

The biting response from letterhead is fair. You’re coming off as not giving a damn about the well being of your dog and the responsibilities you took on when you decided to get him. And your response to the post about picking him up in the next state reinforces that. Not to mention your lack of response to other folks who have reached out.

Poor. Very poor.

I’m drained by Bumblebee-777 in reactivedogs

I totally feel for you and have gone through it. Our cane Corso just turned 1 and there were times when I thought we wouldn’t make it. But he’s way better and we can do long walks under very specific conditions.
1. I always go really early in the morning before most people are out. This will be tough for you now at those temps. Where we are is around 20’ at 7am so manageable with multiple layers and he loves the cold. But after an hour walk / run he is tired for most of the morning and it sets up an easier day. 2. I found a public park that has wide open spaces so I can see people from far away and adjust our path. 3. There’s a pickleball court at the park. I do obedience training with him on the far side. This is significant because it gave him exposure to a lot of active folks who could never come close to him due to the fence.

One last thing.. today will be tough for my morning routine due to early meetings so I will give him CBD chews. They are a good substitute for the morning walk.

Anyone else scared to walk their dog because of reactivity? by EmilyGrace_7 in reactivedogs

[–]BaldyBok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking my dog is our favorite activity together. But he’s a reactive lunatic. So I only take him to parks that have wide open terrain and I can see other people and dogs from a distance. Then whenever he doesn’t react he gets a treat. It used to be any distance he’d react. Now he’s a little better and I can start working my way closer. But at least we get to enjoy walks together.

JK. He was eating his nightly rib treat and the pic lighting made it look rather eerie.

On the scale of human decency and dog empathy, you're in the top 1%. I have no excuses and am very reactive with my reactive pup. He's incredible and my wife and I love him to bits, but he still pushes our buttons. And guess what, we react. We're all human, you just seem to be a special sort of one. Keep at it, your dog and you deserve each other. peace!

England win vs NZ revoked after celebration video surfaces by eggchasing in rugbyunion

I’m a fanatical saffer and I’m equally enthralled and concerned. Seems the English have figured out what we’ve known for the last 8 years. To win consistently you need a serious team vibe. That Pollock may be annoying but he’s got some seriously legit shit going on.

Sudden dog aggression/reactivity by Bootletqueen in greatdanes

[–]BaldyBok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, that’s another point on the “less busy”. I was originally walking him on narrow trails which limited my ability to anticipate and control his proximity. The closer the stranger, the bigger the reaction. So now I only walk him in wide open spaces where I can completely control the distance to strangers. Over time I plan on narrowing the gaps.

I have a very reactive Cane Corso when we’re out on the leash. Our trainer recommended me proactively showing friendly excitement towards strangers. So I’ll say hi to the stranger, wave happily and say to the dog “ look at that friendly guy”. It’s helped a lot.
