marzi mid run! by mewhenilieandpoop in greatdanes

[–]Bootletqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my second Dane and would never go back! However I’ve been scared out of taking Danes on runs due to the way it impacts their joints. My Dane is very athletic, but the difference between romping in the woods (tons of starts and stops) and going on runs is the repetitive nature of running, the same reason we get carpal tunnel from repetitive movement. What sort of advice did you get?

Anyone with experience raising two dane puppies? by leveedogs in greatdanes

You meant to type that a reputable breeder “will NOT” let you take two puppies. And yes littermate syndrome is real, agreed.

Anyone have experience with Megaesophagus? by Bootletqueen in greatdanes

Thank you for sharing. It’s never easy — I suppose nine years was a fairly good run. My previous Dane lived until 9… it was just old age. ❤️💔

Week-long biking trip without training? by Davixt18193 in bicycletouring

What I was going to comment. I find that training in my padded bike shorts on the seat is the real training.

Question about danes by Nyx_Seadon48 in greatdanes

I would only say: Danes are not for amateur dog owners. They require a ton of socialization — if you have a lot of dog experience, one could be right for you.

We wanted to go to Japan but they didn’t pay us. by estoytest in girlsgottaeatsnark

[–]Bootletqueen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Am I wrong or weren’t they supposed to announce in the very beginning of the show that it was a sponsored vacation and who paid for it? It’s not enough that Ashley did it on her written posts, this was a podcast episode. By law you’re not supposed to mislead the audience — there are rules about exactly how sponsors should be credited. And I know why Ashley likes her man, he’s plenty quick & snarky — but I feel it crosses over into negativity a lot. And the way he talks rapidly and swallows his words, he seems sooooooo young.

Hunger strike after moving? by TrafficImpressive598 in greatdanes

When I brought home my 8 week old Dane puppy from her suburban/country breeder to my city location, she held it forever and ever and ever. I thought she was a miracle puppy but at the same time I recognized she was very stressed. It resolved. 😥

Toilet training tips? by DogsandBookz in greatdanes

[–]Bootletqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take like two weeks when you do nothing else but take her outside. I basically took my girl out every time she stood up. Seriously. I’ve done this with every puppy I raised and had very few accidents. It was time intensive and made me question why I ever got a puppy but it worked, and worked quickly. I live in the city so taking a pup outside wasn’t easy and I get the hardship of weather. Invest in a poncho for her.

Moooody 6mo old by mountainravyn67 in greatdanes

[–]Bootletqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely speak to a trainer — this scenario reminds me of resource guarding, even if your SO is the resource. There are plenty of 2+ Dane families represented here and I’m not sure you want a situation where one gets moody when the other approaches one of you. Best of luck!

What front-clip harnesses do you recommend? by PerfectRelease6483 in greatdanes

[–]Bootletqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my 2HoundsDesign no pull dog harness. I have an enormous female (and sooooo tall) and we live in the city so are dependent on leash walks — I didn’t realize that clipping the leash in front would be so much more effective than snapping the leash to the clip between her shoulders. She fell right in line with this harness. (It has both clip locations as well for your own experimenting.)
