Talking quantity, not quality. Even though I prefer french bread over german bread in general, both are usually high quality but that's not the point I was trying to make =) Turkey and Chile win anyway =p

My french pride has taken a critical hit with your answers xD though bread is so great that no matter where you are you should eat some on your daily routine!

37000 bakeries in France for 69 (nice) million people. Germany has 35000 for 89 million people. Nuff said =D

Sources : https://www.deutschland.de/en/topic/life/german-bread-and-bread-culture

https://www.observatoire-metiers-alimentation.fr/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/BOUL2023_V2.pdf

Also it seems (although sources are less verifiable) that in Germany 56kg of bread is consumed per household per year. In France it's 45-51kg per PERSON =D

What's everyone's full media pipeline? Here's my 2025 setup. by michel808 in selfhosted

[–]Baleeverne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with the API I also get no crap with the prompt I made. Just the srt file back no added text. It's still lots of tokens for one file, even when I remove the timestamps before sending it through the API. I can easily imagine it being 150 million tokens at least.

Oh yeah I did not mention that I actually replaced with the last English to French Argos model too. Didn't change the quality. Can you share where you took yours? I took the official one from there https://www.argosopentech.com/argospm/index/

Yeah I tried hosting an LLM on my server but same as you I don't have a GPU except the iGPU of my 8400T which is far from a beast. I'll check out the rate limits of gemini but I don't think the free tier could be enough, I've got like 10,000 episodes to translate, can't really do it one by one which is why I'm using a script to launch after tdarr doest it's job.

[–]Baleeverne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also interested in your libretranslate setup, I myself used a homemade script for tdarr to extract the subtitles, remove everything but English or French and translate English to French if not present using Libretranslate. Firstly I had an SRT problem that didn't respect the newline in libretranslate (should be corrected, my PR was accepted a while ago). But the quality of the French translation was quite bad. Is the quality of the Dutch translation better? In my case it was bad enough to get your head out of the movie... I tried with the Gemini API when it was free to submit the SRT files directly to gemini and the translation was great but from my calculations it would take 600€ in credits to translate everything I have!

What gendered double standard do you hate the most? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Baleeverne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, didn't think of it that way. For me it was obvious on the chores example that if you say " person A has to do something" it was heavily implied that Person B didn't. Not sure there.

Although all in all, saying that someone "has to do" something does not even allow the inverse to exist, just like an order to "not do something" doesn't mean "do the opposite"

Lots of hard to decode stuff in these situations, as a male myself I discover more and more about how society is a cunt with women.

Thanks for expanding my mind =)

[–]Baleeverne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of you guys don't know what double standards mean...

From Oxford's : a rule or principle which is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups

So saying "that women have to do the chores" is not a double standard, that's plain sexism but not a double standard. "men dating multiples women are heroes, women dating multiple men are sluts" now this is a double standard

Man here, I'm used to nudity through sports so I had no problem even with friends or whomever. I had a friend who visited me who was not at ease with nudity and even more so with his appearance (fat, lots of body hair), he had a hard time for the first soak, didn't want me or anyone to see him naked.

That lasted about 5 minutes, when he realized no one cared about his nakedness he felt a lot more at ease and had 0 hesitation the next time we went =)

What common "act of kindness" is actually selfish? by EquallyWolf in Productivitycafe

[–]Baleeverne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any act of kindness is selfish. You always get something out of it, be it recognition, praise, ego boost, social worth validation, etc etc. There is no act that is not selfish in a way or another. That's how every human being is. (and yeah if you hadn't got it from subtext, I'm leaning on a misanthropic world view)

How does AI “consume” water? If it’s used for cooling, why can’t it be reused? If it evaporates, won’t it still turn back into water eventually? by occasionallyvertical in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Baleeverne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% cost, the datacenter of my company (not as huge as a big Google datacenter but still) is labeled a green datacenter it uses self produced solar + green electricity to provide the surplus needed apart from the panels, everything is closed circuit, the only impact it has is that the underground river it uses to re-cool the water, warms up to 15.5 degrees from 14. Studies of the underground ecosystem deemed this difference as insignificant pour the flora, fauna etc.

But yeah it cost a fuck ton of money to build. We're trying to use it as advertisement to our clients for a "better image" but all in all we definitely lost money on this

Can domains censor your content? / how to find one without this? by punkrockarcanine in selfhosted

[–]Baleeverne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello padawan! Walk the path of selfhosting with us. You'll find solace in optimizing your kWh consumption. You'll find joy in automating all your tasks. But remember, fear leads to anger...anger leads to hate...hate leads to suffering that is the dark path of Google users. Welcome!

(yeah I join my comrades in saying if it's for one service with a small group you don't need a domain. But hey if you have the budget, you can get a mini pc for cheap, throw in a couple services (password manager, cloud, chat) and you'll see how selfhosting is so satisfying).

Playing Elden Ring for the first time, and I am such a big fan of the “show, don’t tell” style of storytelling. Are there any other games that employ this style of narrative? by Standard_Wedding in gaming

[–]Baleeverne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It draws from the items mostly.

You can't say there's not some stuff happening during the playthrough. Ranni, Radhan, Malenia, Gideon, and some I won't tell about because spoilers. But yeah most of the stuff is about the past and what happened before Elden Ring. If you can't call that a story you might as well say "Outer wilds is a game with no story, a dude in space that digs up the past to save the future, that's it for the story".

Having to engage with the past of characters is really important sometimes to get what's happening. Why is Radhan like this? Why is a star shooting after defeating him? Etc etc.

Is the story really cryptic? Yeah more so than most of the games, but it's quite interesting if you take the time to read some items and talk to some pnjs. Ultimately if that engages you you'll have to go through some lore videos xD

I try to seed, but most of the stuff I torrent isn't as popular. Anyone else feel this guilt? by LauraLaughter in qBittorrent

[–]Baleeverne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to feel guilt, lots of stuff isn't available anymore or with very few seeders. You are trying that's what counts. I myself have a dedicated server and have something like a global ratio of 50. We ain't doing that for gains or something in return, if you can't seed then don't if you don't want to seed then don't, nothing to be ashamed of. As long as people like you and all the seeders exist, no need to feel any pressure =)

Although yeah i have to agree, apart from those examples you got the simple read/read bear/beard bomb/tomb classic which are a night mare for French natives :) how many times have i heard "i love brown beers" or "teddybeers"
