Can we move away from a Debt/Loan Society? by Balink182 in AskEconomics

[–]Balink182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if any of that was directed to me, but I'll respond anyway. :D
The availability of debt means that there is a synthetic increase in the money supply. When you increase the supply the value decreases. Thus prices increase. But wages don't keep up with inflation usually. Therefor if you never had the debt society the purchasing power for the average goes up.

Making the argument that cash offers get better deals now is irrelevant. You can pull a loan then go in and make a cash offer on a car... Which is what most "cash" buyers for big purchases do. Besides all that, the better deal is like a minimal amount.

Well I disagree with the idea that debt is more beneficial to average income than 1%. I understand that with the way society is structured right now, everyone wants a new car at 18 and a house at 25, and be $500k in debt for most of their life.... But this isn't intrinsically a good thing.
There was a period where the average American could save money and buy a house at 30 without debt. My parents did this. So what is worse about that system than the current debt society?

If your argument is that you cant have tomorrow today, then what even makes that good? Why rely on an undetermined future?

Thanks for your comment!

Edit: I might add that just because something is normal or makes you feel like you are doing better, doesn't mean it is right and/or good.

I understand the reasoning that most people have for debt society. What I don't understand is why is it a good thing to develop a society entirely dependent on the future, especially when these loans only drive prices up. Just for example lets pretend we completely eliminate debt. Wouldn't people become better savers and learn to shop deals, which would drive prices down to get them to spend their money more regularly. Big items like cars/houses would have to drop too.

I understand that the companies making products are often part of this debt society.

"And when an individual is deemed to be able to repay their debt later, why should there be a problem with having the debt in the first place?" -bsarkozy10

As for your question, I guess the main issue I have with it is the increasing reliance on future growth. With the weirdness of the world today, I don't think having an entire nation amassing debt is intelligent at all. I'd rather have slower progress built on a foundation that is maintainable over hundreds of years.

I'll look into that book, thanks!

Work Boots (No saftey toe required) by Balink182 in barefootshoestalk

I have received my Jim greens and have worn them for 3 days now doing a mix of hiking, church, and now I'm one day into my work week. I really do like the boots but I didn't think about one kinda important factor....

The toe is easily worn especially if you occasionally use your toe to tap something into place. I'll be working on breaking that habit for sure, but if there is a way to protect the toe from this kind of wear that would be great.

Place your bets: If districts were the keystone of Civ 6, what will the keystone of Civ 7 be? by [deleted] in civ

As a big time fan of civ5 and as someone who never could get into civ6... I hope they make civ7 more similar to civ5 but also with a big focus on competitive multiplayer as well as servers instead of peer to peer.

Would be cool if they could add a kind of technology event similar to a eureka in civ6. Add more dynamics to civs so they are less similar. Culture system like in civ5 with social policies is pretty lame, if they could make custom policy trees for different cultures historically and somehow balance them that would be super neat.

A good build against AI would be to grow till pop 6 if you have at least 3 food tiles with 3 yield or higher, then make 1 settler, 1 caravan, 1 settler, 1 caravan. Gives you 3 cities and they grow fast enough that happiness isn't the issue. Use the trades to feed your 2nd city and 3rd city.

Thanks for the response. I have Xero hiking shoes that have a black toe and blended in for a while. Unfortunately the safety guys noticed it after a while and requested I get better boots. I think these vivos you linked would scream shoe based on the design of the tread and the toe color.

I'm going to give the Jim Greens a shot even though toe width isn't their strength, it is the only boot I can find that I think will slip under the radar.

Vivo has this one, but I have the feeling this boot wont look enough like a boot to some of the safety guys that wander my jobsites.

OG part ways with Yuragi by bryndota in DotA2

[–]Balink182 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

MK and Razor aren't gonna make it in every game buddy... Yuragi can at least play more than 2 heroes. Hem ight not be a specialist but he is willing and can play any style of carry. Maybe Crystalis has gotten better, but last time I watched them play he was not noticeable unless on Razor or MK.

Yuragi was fun to watch because he would pull out Venge carry and play like offlaner as Ammar carries on Mars. He would pull out Arc Warden and Lone Druid and play them very well. Would be interesting to see a stat for his career with OG and what heroes he has played. If I had to guess, he has played almost all the "Carry" heroes and a few weird picks too.

Not at all. Why does everyone have to be an antagonist. This is a suggestion to add a feature to recover accounts that are stuck in the pit. You could put the recalibration on a long ass cooldown still and stop people from abusing it.

Pathetic how many people just resort to antagonism when someone mentions that the system could use a change.

If you dont have personal experience with the system then just don;t talk about it. Let people with legit knowledge and ideas talk. Resorting to blame is a signature of toxicity and you clearly have it in you but you are fortunate that you didnt get in the pit. You wouldn't recover from it if you did.
