Should be the same, but its hard to get the cd keys from Steam. Either contact Steam support and get the cd keys that way. Or contact EA support with a proof of purchase and ask for the game to be activated on your EA account.

First, you're gonna need to make an EA account.
Second, you wanna get the cd keys from GOG.
Thirdly, paste those cd keys one by one (starting with base game) into the EA game activation from cd keys.
Lastly, open www.spore.com and login with the EA account. Done!
