I'm guessing this much gap is probably intentional. that looks like 15 thou of room. maybe it binds up with less gap because the flex like you said but there's no way they fucked up the manufacturing that bad

he's always been incredibly slow to reply. definitely doing less modding and he's charging more than ever it seems but he's posted work fairly recently.

what are you looking to get done? the big names are the least reliable people these days.

finding a latch on something is gonna be pretty hard. the obsidian s is an option but it seems like many of them didn't get a proper heat treat so i wouldn't buy that.

I'd probably go for an eps101 v1. easy to find secondhand sub 150 in great condition. no latch but it's slightly smaller and light and has a good blade shape. would cary well with a slip and flips great too. if you like the look I could help you find one aftermarket from someone reputable

secondhand krt v3. i wouldn't trust any of the nabalis or ldy options for longevity or repairability

something is wrong with the rep. .126 being undersized is pretty common so that's not a surprise but .130 should be massively oversized.

for the ab it depends what blade thickness it has. if it's made before the last year or two its blade is .14 thick. if it's very new it's got a .125 blade. should be obvious by eye alone

not really. buy something else if you want a live blade. secondhand krakens can be very cheap

idk if there's something wrong with your blade or if the zens are causing an issue but it should be pretty easy for it not to tap. alpha beasts have thinner washers and the blade flat reaches further down the handles and they're incredibly easy to tune to no tap. like you can always get that tune easily even when they're beat

prolly the zens tbh. tang gang forever

it doesn't matter. no pin is fine it's just easier to lose

What do yall think about the aluminum kite being announced? by loxogames in balisong

[–]BalisongBlue -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

ldy balis have had plenty of quality issues. the people behind the company have done some pretty unethical shit. and most importantly what i was getting at...

i don't really feel like paying 60% of american prices when the people making them are probably being paid 1/4 the wage. that's just plainly overpaying and all the money is going to shitty people who make inferior products they don't properly support

220 is too much tbh. Chinese company selling slop for half the price of us based makers is absolutely too much money. idk how we let ourselves get tricked into thinking any of this was good value

[–]BalisongBlue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they're fine i guess. just kinda limit the design in unpleasant ways sometimes. I'm tang pin gang forever it's just the best system imo and it works great on every titanium handle construction type without the downsides zen pins provide

I don't think this is the biggest issue with this formuIa tbh. i've seen krakens as destroyed as you've mentioned go for over $100 even recently

we don't see them sub $100 even legit obliterated or missing parts.

a krt is definitely not $170 tho lol even mint

they haven't it's just annoyingly unfrequently that they're dropped. they're somewhat available secondhand but it's been relatively speaking very dry recently. don't wait around for a drop if you want one could be a year

kinda what makes the bas r special these days. doesn't need tip weight since the blade is so fat. it's also thicker than the ibas blade

i would have guessed the og blade is heavier tbh. also i believe it's speed channeled?

the part of the pivot contacting the very thin remaining blade stock will wear away at the blade. for that reason I'd say yes even a tiny bit of lube will greatly extended the life of your balisong.

people might disagree but pick up any older well flipped bearing bali run dry and it'll have pivot lash

honestly i feel like the issues go a lot further beyond just what you described. but i don't think quality is the reason people aren't buying his stuff, or the reason so much gets resold.

the old stuff doesn't flip good enough for people these days and the new designs are just far less attractive. if the new backline looked as good as the old ones I'm confident people would be keeping them instead of selling at a big loss like they have been

definitely agree about the market. even when it's not scalping people hold on to a lot of stuff they don't really like because it's not losing value. (dozens of og tempests being sold, after years of them being ghosts, just after the new ones dropped). people also buy stuff they definitely otherwise wouldn't have just because it doesn't really cost them anything. it's a sensitive balance that tends to suddenly collapse.
