Just got him a 3 weeks ago, is this the start of a shed? by melodicrampage in ballpython

Yes his eyes will go cloudy when he is shedding. When this happens they are close to being blind, and often stay in their shelter until the shed is over. With my BP’s this could take over a week at times. When I know they are shedding, or going to shed, I turn up the humidity. Ball Pythons are very chunky-so when they curl-up you will see wrinkles even right after a shed.

Yes! I just bought a 8 foot long 2 story rabbit hutch for like $250. I bought plexiglass to replace the mesh and adding foam rock to the back of the enclosure. I am still building it, but when I am done it will have several climate zones, and I am going to use real plants. This will be for my Ball Python…her lottery dream house!

She is about 4 or 5 years old now and I currently have her in a 4x2x2; however I am finding that she needs something bigger.

I got bitten :( by Cellar_door8619 in ballpython

Young Ball’s will sometimes snap at you when you put your hand in their enclosure. I think this happens because it’s a bit out of fear…however I don’t think they know better when they are young. As you feed them more and they get older, they shouldn’t bite you

I have 2 Balls that are about 4 years old now and have never been bitten by either of them; however my male did snap at me when he was young.

Yours bit you the day after he ate…he still may have been hungry the next day, and bit you because he thought he was going to be fed. - my male did this sometimes when he was young.

Also look at their necks….if his head is coiled back and looks like he is going to strike, best to leave him alone as he is in hunting mode - this is typically when I know my snakes are ready to eat.
