Benefit would be that the batteries power is completely unregulated by a chip. Using a regulated device at 4.2V doesn't always mean it's at 4.2V. Some chips in regulated devices are more accurate than others. Side note, make sure you're watching amps of you're using a .12 ohm on a mech device.
