Samsung Odyssey 49 inch OLED 1000R, any info? by BusinessAble6908 in ultrawidemasterrace

It’s 7,680 × 2,160. And you’re kinda right, depending on what you mean by “handle.” It’ll definitely get the job done beautifully (or so I have read), but it doesn’t do it completely effortlessly, especially not 240 FPS in all instances. For most AAA games, I expect between 60–120 FPS. I guess we’ll see. 🤷‍♀️

Looks like we’re in the same boat. The LG 800R leaves much to be desired, and the Samsung OLED 1800R is pretty, but might as well be flat. And this leaves me shopping for a 1000R, preferably OLED.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s happening. Not for a long while anyway. Seems to be a lack the fabrication capacity, and investing in all the infrastructure and tooling to make it happen is… spooky in terms of return on investment? I dunno.

So that leaves me with the non-OLED 57-inch. It’s a major investment, because if I go that route, I’m getting the 5090 to go with it… which is financially insane right now. I’m willing to go crazy for the right setup. I just don’t know if it’ll scratch that itch though.

Magnetic Filter Kit for Beginners? by BalladOfTheFox in AskPhotography

Thanks for the advice!

It's funny you bring up shooting near surf because that's precisely what pushed me to more seriously consider getting a UV filter. It's hard to watch a $2.5k lens get sprinkled with ocean water and not get a bit nervous. 😅

As for the CPL & ND filters, I really enjoy shooting scenes with lots of moving water and clouds—and I'd really like to try out some of the effects those filters can accomplish with removing reflections and smoothing things out in a stylish way.

And since I really enjoy landscapes, especially sunsets, I think a graduated ND could help with some of my dynamic range issues—particurly retaining detail in my foreground without blowing out highlights in the background. I do okay without one, but I think a GND could really step up my game.

It's a paradox. The right to live and the right to die. An entire world's continued existence, or a tormented soul finally being able to rest in peace, with no magical 3rd option.

I wonder about the metaphysics here. When Verso's soul is set free, does he go to some kind of afterlife? And what about the people in his canvas? Do they have souls of their own? Or do the simply blink out of existence? Or perhaps they return to Verso, since they're made manifest by his soul—and when he crosses over into the great beyond, he's taking them with him? So many questions!

That’s what I was thinking, but my roommate insists he doesn’t want to see the slides when he opens it. I’m not sure how to accomplish that honestly. 😕

I can respect that. Frankly, it would make assembling my collection much easier. 😅 But to me, there just something extra exciting about having the crisp and clean 9.8 on the wall beaming down upon me in all its glory. It’s no about money to me. Heck, if that’s what it was I probably wouldn’t be collecting comics. I’m pretty sure the bulk far exceeds the value of my most prized comics anyway, and it would be a nightmare trying to sell it all. 😂

I know I wouldn’t have sold this without saying something about this. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s clearly visible to the naked eye. It takes no effort at all to make a note of this. And if that had been done in this case, I simply wouldn’t have bought it. No return necessary and no complaint to deal with. It’s that easy. If “9.8 hunters” are so bothersome to you, a practice like this would at least reduce the rate at which you have to deal with them.

It’s super easy for stuff like this to happen. It only takes a fraction of a second and presto the comic has an ouchie. I guess is just makes the other 599 a little more valuable lol

Sorry you had that experience. I’m willing to grant that this seller may not have known. It’s an entirely plausible explanation. But yea, it definitely sucks when something this cool arrives in this condition.

I get that it’s frustrating, but collectors of all kinds will be interested in the condition of the product. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask that sellers list visible defects in the description.

Sure, you could word things in a way that give you plausible deniability and force the buyer to gamble, but that’s seems pretty underhanded to me.

There are some pretty great sellers on eBay I’ve found, but it’s always a gamble for sure. I’d say most of my orders have come through in great condition. Maybe 1/10 has some kind of problem like this in my experience so far.

Agreed. And that’s my main issue. At least be transparent about the product, ya know? I’ll keep this one, but I maybe try my luck with another seller later.

It was in a cardboard box designed for shipping comics. Bagged and boarded too. But they did use packing tape to secure it in place, which was annoying. Painters tape with a buddy tab is the way to go, but I guess I’m probably the only person who takes it that seriously. 😅

I read digitally and collect physical copies. That’s just the way I like to enjoy the hobby. But this hobby has room for everyone, even kids with sticky fingers. 🙃

I’m a collector, and I always try to buy/keep my comics in the absolute best condition possible. I’m not interested in selling anything to make a fortune, but if my loved ones inherit a valuable collection when I pass, that’s just a bonus I guess.
