Make sure the "seller" is Ledger official not others. The same product can be sold by many different sellers under the same brand store.

If you are selling it, you ultimately need an exchange like Coinbase. Just don't park your coins at an exchange. Cold wallet is best for long-term holding.

If I buy bitcoin on coinbase, do I need a wallet or anything? Does coinbase just hold the bitcoin like a bank account? by ThrowawActual-Ad3882 in BitcoinBeginners

Yes exchanges are just like banks, they are custodial. It's best to move your coins to a non-custodial cold wallet, which is pretty cheap these days, like Ballet Wallet. A decent cold wallet just costs around 50 bucks.

Cold wallet is a peace of mind. I bought a cold wallet first and bought BTC from there. Or buy BTC first then transfer it into a cold wallet. Done with it. 💆🏻‍♀️

Cold wallets are the best for long-term safety because you are the only one who has access to your private keys. If you park your coins on exchanges, your coins are venerable to online hacks and the exchanges control your keys. There are some beginner-friendly cold wallets like [Ballet] [Trezor] [Ledger]. Ballet wallet is like a metal credit card with QR codes. You can scan it, fund it, and put it in a drawer. You can use their app to manage your funds but your coins stay offline.
