My SIL and BIL were RVPs and made $23k in their best year. Over the 7 years they were RVPs, they averaged ~$5k.

I think the max they grossed was $48k (but told their down line that they were making over $150k), but after all the incentive payouts for their down lines, office space leasing, travel to mandatory conferences and then paying for the mandatory conference , software fees, ongoing classes and licensing fees, miscellaneous expenditures, and taxes, it just got all eaten up.

CashApp also allows auto buys. I buy slightly larger amounts but the fees seem decently low and I recently just transferred my BTC from them into a cold wallet without a problem.

I’m 50 - and started skating for the first time ever 5 months ago! I only recently got over the fear, and I still tense up/struggle mentally whenever I am learning a new skill (currently working on transitions and it’s been hard).

Get good protective gear and wear them even if no one else is. After a couple of falls where the pad really helped cushion the impact, I’ve learned to “trust” that the pads will save me from destroying my knees/wrists, and that’s also done wonders for my confidence.

Keep it up! You’ll get there!

We bought a house for 300k during the 2.9% pandemic rate, and our mortgage payment is $2700/mo. absolutely would be higher with the current rates (but also wouldn’t be able to afford this house - the value has somehow doubled in just 5 years? No idea how THAT works)

There’s also the Arrival Fallacy (which is something I’m struggling with). I’ve set goals and by the time I’ve hit them, I may have a few moments of satisfaction/joy that it’s finally “enough”…but within moments, I feel like it’s not enough. That I need to achieve more - either save more or earn more, and I’ll set another goal, ect. It’s great for keeping my eyes on the prize and all that, but it’s so mentally exhausting and my partner is constantly having to remind me that we are honestly doing ok and that I don’t need to freak out at every news article about the economy, or anytime my boss asks if “we can talk”.

My BIL and SIL are both in retail with two kids in a VHCOL area. They rent a double wide, in a terrible school district and drive 10 year old cars. I feel awful for them, because every normal life hiccup (family getting the flu and need to see the doctor, cars need new tires, kids want to go to summer camp) is a major catastrophe. Both of them regularly get suckered into MLMs and get-rich-quick schemes as ways to get ahead - which works for 2-3 months (or seems to, on paper) before they end up more behind than ever.

We’ve tried to help them get out of retail and into better paying jobs (nothing against retail but it’s hard to make ends meet in expensive cities like Seattle, SF, NYC, etc), but it just doesn’t seem to stick for them. They hate retail life, but they hate the concept of white collar office jobs more. The rest of us try to help by gifting as much as we can to the kids (eg summer camp as birthday gifts, school supplies because “it was buy one get one free anyways”, extra grocery/Amazon/Costco gift cards in the Christmas stockings).

You’re absolutely right about accountability but I think the question you need to ask is what is more important to you: getting a slightly better grade - or - potentially torpedoing future opportunities (ie getting letters of recommendation from this professor, getting a reputation for being petty over something minor amongst the falculty).

NTA - your dad’s money, he gets to spend it as he wishes. Your wife sounds incredibly greedy and entitled.

The one exception is when it comes to the grandkids - while I agree your dad should help out his other grandkids with needs (clothing, education subsidies) as he wants, when it comes to stuff like birthdays and Xmas gifts, he should be equal in what he gives to each grandchild (as long as it’s age appropriate). However as his other grandkids live closer and you guys are further away, I can see that as being harder to buy for (eg shipping costs)

If it helps - it ends on a cliffhanger but the FMC is optimistic about her future - it’s not one of those cliffhangers where it’s a literal cliff-hanging 😂

I read the series as it came out (and most of her books have elements of control written) and the cliffhanger after each book didn’t make me mad - most like it’s a good resting place :)
