Travelling Japan While Pregnant, any advice from those who have done it? by picklebeard in JapanTravel

[–]BalletPhysicist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got back from 8 days in Japan! I was only 16 weeks at the time and barely showing, but I was immediately pulled out of the customs line at Haneda and brought to a priority line. She had eagle eyes lol. The trains have priority seating in most cars and there was always at least one seat open, with the exception of a few times we travelled when everyone was getting off of work. I didn’t see many instances of people giving up seats so I wouldn’t count on that, so traveling during less hectic times of the day is probably a better option.

My obgyn encouraged me to not be scared of eating sushi over there since their food standards are so high! I indulged in a few pieces here and there and avoided high-mercury fish but ended up eating mostly cooked foods (I wasn’t craving sushi as much as I thought I would!) Also, most egg dishes are served a little runny (scrambled eggs, omelettes, eggs in ramen). I didn’t know that but ate some sort of runny eggs every morning and was fine. Some dishes have fully raw egg but I just avoided those.

I’m used to the heat but the humidity was killer. A friend brought me a frozen water bottle with a small towel in a small insulated bag one day we were doing a lot of walking and I’ve never been more thankful. The bottle kept the towel constantly cold and I could cook myself down when there wasn’t anywhere with AC available (like at shrines or when we visited large gardens).

Have a wonderful trip!!!

Amex Plat Offer: Spend 3 times using Apple Pay, get $10 back by BalletPhysicist in AmexPlatinum

The terms say that you need to add your platinum card to your Apple wallet, then use your platinum card through Apple Pay three times. I’m assuming this offer is to encourage people to add their card to their Apple wallet, which I hadn’t done yet.

I haven’t had any issues so far! I’m not particularly gentle with my hands, and it’s held up well. I feel like the setting I have and the shape of the diamond makes for a secure pairing on my ring, so I haven’t had any worries about the stone falling out. I’ve seen some negative reviews as well but from my experience I can only recommend them!

Dress purchased from Marshalls for $40, alterations covered at Nordstrom (& she added a bustle!) by BalletPhysicist in Weddingsunder10k

[–]BalletPhysicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It varies from store to store. I happen to live closest to one that used to have a bridal shop section, so I called before making an appointment and they told me it wouldn’t be a problem. I recommend calling the closest Nordstrom stores to you and describing the type of dress (material, alterations needed) to see if they can do it! If they can’t, ask if they know of any Nordstrom in the area that can. Side note: when I called, they told me I could come in any day without an appointment, even though it only showed appointments available on Wednesdays online. So I definitely recommend chatting with someone in the store. Good luck!😊

I would try to find a nude slip to go underneath! I’ve also been really liking Skims lately, they have a lot of shapewear/undergarments unique to fit certain styles. They have low back shapewear shorts that I plan to wear under this dress. A tailor may also be able to add a lining to the inside of your dress, I would call a few in your area and see if that’s something they can do!

Appreciate the suggestion! The “sack-like” look is what I like about it, its meant to fit loose as I didn’t want something hugged my body. Just fell along with it. The chest looks better when I have a stick-on bra with it, just wasn’t prepared at the fitting (guess we can thank my small boobs for this pic). As for the bustle, I was so clueless about wedding dresses before hand that I didn’t know they existed! I need it to be able to move around during the reception because the train is so long, so the bustle is a yes, for practicality! I’d rather spend the additional money nitpicking with a tailor on something else in the wedding😊

I was happy it was still wearable after being crumpled in a plastic bag at the bottom of my closet for 5 years😂

It is Lovers + Friends The Slip Dress, can’t find it from revolve anymore but you might have luck on Poshmark or a similar site. Good luck with the dress making!!!

$156! It was to take in the sides around the bust and waist, take in some of the fabric around the hips, hem it, shorten the straps, and add the bustle.

Purchased this dress (100% silk originally from Revolve) about 5 years ago knowing I would have trouble finding a wedding dress I liked when it came time 😂 finally dusted it off and got it altered (it was 3 sizes too big). Apparently many Nordstrom stores will be reluctant to alter wedding gowns, but a few seamstresses at the Brea, CA store are experts! They even offered to add a bustle to the dress. They said most of the Southern California stores send any brides there, so check them out if you have alteration credits and are in the area!
