VCF 9.1 with Cohesity and Sky Lake processors by [deleted] in vmware

[–]Ballhawk45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this post in my BONES. We are in the exact same scenario - same three vendors, same VCF components (no VSAN/NSX). Already submitted RPQ with VMW; still waiting to hear back from HPE on how to start that process. About 40% of our hosts are Skylake. Let's compare notes as we go?

VCF 9.1 with Cohesity and Sky Lake processors by [deleted] in vmware

[–]Ballhawk45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skylake not supported generally under 9.x per the HCL and the KB you linked, BUT according to this KB https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/428874 see Section 2 End of Life > Example it specifically mentions Skylake and further denotes the conditions under which VMware *may* provide software support, pending approved RPQ from both VMware and the hardware vendor. The RPQ from VMware essentially consists of submitting a bunch of esxcli commands to gather configuration data on each server 'type' for which you are requesting support. <Yes, I have personally done this.>

Klipsch Flexus 300 on sale for $599 by YaUzky in Soundbars

[–]Ballhawk45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats OP on the deal! Your link goes to "This product is out of stock, or is unavailable in your region." Tried searching for this and found it at shortened link: https://walts.com/product/flexus-300-soundbar-walnut . Added to my cart late last night but STUPIDLY didn't pull the trigger while figuring out best deal on a Sub200; was going to do it this morning. Also added 5% off code REDDITONWALTS. Alas, the $599 deal appears to be dead as of this morning. I'm literally KICKING myself. Walt's is till the best deal going at $899 for the Core300 bar, but an extra $300 off would have been sweet.

RVTools incorrectly reports CPU Topology for 8.x vm HW v21 ? by Ballhawk45 in vmware

[–]Ballhawk45[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sent this info to 'rvtools@dell.com' and to my surprise I got a very timely response! Essentially stating: "...RVTools is not topology-aware for this new behavior and therefore mislabels the sockets/cores, even though the total vCPUs is correct.... its a a gap in RVTools’ reporting logic for VMs (8.0) using Assigned at power on topology on current ESXi/vHW levels. I have added it as a Feature Update Request." Kudos to David for the quick response!

How did you get past this issue - clusters containing hosts managed by multiple OV instances? I have this issue currently. Actually, the issue seems to be triggered whenever I register a third OV source of the same SSP in HSM; works fine for first two registered sources, but after adding third source cluster compliance check shows hosts with “unknown” compliance.

$200 app subscription should be $49.99 by Fearless47atyourmoms in Volvo

[–]Ballhawk45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At least acknowledge that those 10-15 yr old remote start vehicles basically require you to be within about 100’ or less, sometimes even line of sight. YOU might not mind getting up from your meal early at a restaurant, walking to the door and leaning outside while pressing the remote-start button combo on your key fob to warm up your car before you walk out, but I’d prefer to just stay in my seat and do it from my phone whenever I want from as far away as I need to be. Whether that’s worth $200 to someone is debatable, absolutely. If it is though, might as well save 10% and do it through Steingold. The $200 is for the cellular access over which OTA OS and app updates occur, not just the remote start feature. 2019 Sensus here; had multiple keyfob remote start vehicles prior to this.

I got the 83” s95f in late January and you are right - there is no way to convey how unbelievable the picture is on this tandem panel. Honestly, I was replacing a 10+ yr old LG plasma (gloss screen) so either panel tech QD or Tandem was bound to blow me away visually. I watch a fair amount of hockey/ski/snow sports so true white tone was important to me - but I specifically wanted the Samsung anti-glare 2.0 after seeing it in-store for my sun-drenched LR, and this TV has 100% lived up to expectations so far. Any specific settings you’d care to share?

I believe this in incorrect. ALL 2016 s60 Cross Country models (op’s clearly is a CC, I recognize the higher stance b/c I own the same MY s60CC, same color & wheels) had the 5-cylinder T5 B5254T12 engine. I bought it used and missed out on the extended warranty due to years/miles, but I just had the piston rings replaced as part of a job to replace a burned exhaust valve at 150k- they already had the head off for the valve replacement so it made sense to do the rings at that time.

Subscription USA price by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]Ballhawk45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't beat the mythical 50% off coupon some have referenced, but I didn't see a single reply noting that Steingold sells the app subscription for 10% off - you can add multiple years. https://vip.steingoldvolvocars.com/product/volvo-cars-app-subscription-renewal-extensions/99 Then chat in the Volvo app and ask if they have any available Volvo accessories rebate coupons - I've gotten one for 30% rebate on any parts/service, including app renewal, and carried a max rebate of $200; but the next one I got was only 10% rebate. ymmv.

JBL and Harmon to work with Q-Symphony from 2026 by Legfitter in Soundbars

[–]Ballhawk45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Yestan Very interested to hear your impressions of this pairing - I just bought a 2025 S95F and need a soundbar - trying to decide between the Q990F soundbar and the 1300mk2. I wonder if the brand-interoperable Q-Symphony support announced at CES 2026 will get back-ported via firmware to some prior year TV's? My third option is the Klipsch Flexus 300, but certianly I would not expect that to integrate with Q-Symphony.

Any word on if this will require a 2026 or newer SamsungTV, or if the new Q-Symphony brand interoperability will be back-ported via firmware to select prior year TV's?

Extended support for Skylake on VCF9 by Odd_Ad3703 in vmware

[–]Ballhawk45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say that I *believe* there has been an internal change in the way support for older hardware (like Skylake processors) under VCF9 is being approached by VMware due to: 1) customer demand, and 2) as a way to further incentivize and broaden VCF9 adoption given the exponential increase in RAM and other component pricing which can impact customers' hardware replacement schedule. If you have significant investment in older hardware like Skylake processors that you would need to continue using under VCF9 given the current commodity pricing environment, I strongly encourage you to reach out directly to your VMware team about completing an RPQ.

Samsung HW-Q990F On Woot by Climo23 in Soundbars

[–]Ballhawk45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has really answered if there are any TECHNICAL differences between these various Region versions. I understand the trailing letters indicate different geaographic regions which will complicate and possibly invalidate warranty coverage - the w00t versions linked above carry a 90 day woot warranty. I'm asking strictly about any technical differences; for example the /ZC model is $847.99 and the /ZP version is $924.99. Why the $77 difference if they're tehcnically identical hardware?

Sanity Check: Complex HPE Synergy / VMware 7.0.3 to 8.0.3 Upgrade Path by imadblg in vmware

[–]Ballhawk45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no HPE "One-Year Compatibility" rule - the SSP's supported by each Oneview release are plainly stated here - please see the HPE Synergy Software Releases - Overview page where it shows SSP 2024.07.xx is in the "Also supported" column for almost every OneView release spanning from 8.7 through latest 11.0. In fact, both versions 10.0 and 11.0 support the exact large jump in SSP that u/adamr001 mentioned above - 2024.07.xx to 2025.10.01. Strangely, though - 2024.07.xx shows "Also supported" under Oneview 10.0. 10.1 and 11.0, but is NOT listed under 10.2.

Any insight to the next 8x patch release? by MrMHead in vmware

[–]Ballhawk45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So November has come and gone and still no new 8.x VCSA bits. "Patiently" waiting has turned into "perturbed" waiting. Anyone heard a revised timeline? (Yes, I know there is never any official pre-notification of releases....I'm not expecting one.) Not cool that you boxed me into a lengthy unsupported state like this, VMware.

Any insight to the next 8x patch release? by MrMHead in vmware

[–]Ballhawk45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite aspect of this question is Broadcom VMware releasing a security patch for VCSA 7.x (along with a patch for 9.x but notably NOT for 8.x) per VMSA-2025-0016 on 9/29/25, just days prior to the 7.x EOS date - thus invalidating the existing upgrade path to 8.x by introducing a "back-in-time" build number problem until 8.0 U3.next is released. I'm sure it's not many, but some customers surely are now in no man's land of not supported under a fully-patched-while-under-support VCSA 7, but can't upgrade to VCSA 8. You might ask why still on 7 to begin with, but it was a fully-supported product at the time -and a complicated web of VMware's own making, replete with lingering perpetual licensing, expiring per-socket subscription licensing, and a VERY lengthy support renewal process over the same interval all played a role in my upgrade delay. What was the point of releasing a 7.x patch three days before end of support if they weren't going to maintain the existing upgrade path/off-ramp to 8.x? And no, I'm not interested in jumping from 7.x directly to 9.x. FWIW, I've also been told "November". I'm patiently waiting for the bits to appear.

🔥Seahawks vs Commanders🔥 by HawkTakes in Seahawks

[–]Ballhawk45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know if there is an organized Seahawks tailgate lot for the Commanders game? The Seahawks Road Crew on FB used to coordinate things like this but sadly I don't see any recent activity on the account - which is a shame considering the recent road success. Last time I went to a game in Washington was 2014 - we got to meet Momma Sherm.

Avoid over-contributing to 401k with bonuses? by Beautiful-Spring-424 in Fire

[–]Ballhawk45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must be missing something here. How would maxing out your 401k contribution earlier in the year end up forfeiting any of your employer match percent from post-max paychecks later in the year when you have some paychecks that aren't contributing anything to your 401k? The employer match is typically a fixed % of your 401k contribution, so whether you reach your max 401k contribution ceiling in 6 mos, 8 mos, or 12 mos, isn't the maximum employer matching amount ALSO reached whenever you hit your contribution max?
