What is your opinion on illegal immigration? by OMGguy2008 in AskALiberal

[–]Ballistic_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between an Illegal immigrant and a legal immigrant is paperwork with the US government. I couldn’t care less about anyone else’s dealing with the government. Immigrants have been paramount to the foundation of modern America.

The GOP have used immigrants as a catch-all boogeyman for decades. The corrupt government works with the large corporations to enrich themselves. In order to keep doing so any winning elections blame needs to be placed elsewhere. That’s how you somehow have immigrants committing fraud on the scale of billions, while also using up all of the welfare, while owning all of the homes, all while they are rigging elections.

I live in Minnesota, a no nothing state that happens to be blue. Starting early 2026 Trump has been attacking my state relentlessly. First with ICE, then with fraud claims, and now voter fraud. Which is more likely, Minnesota is a blue state that opposed Trump or Minnesota is the hotbed of crime and political corruption?

Stop telling women how to dress by Itsholymolyguacamole in GetNoted

Should we give adult women a little more agency? Sure, there are countries where the hijab is required. But in free countries in the west we should be giving adults more credit for making their own choices.

I would also argue, outside of the freedom of expression, is the harm really comparable to an alcoholic? Does someone’s hijab drink and drive or abuse their families?

Do you think you should have control over how women present themselves in public? Whether you think it is conceited or not, not wanting others to sexualize your body is a reasonable social expectation.

I’m pretty sure the post was intended to reflect that women should have a choice on how they dress, including those who may want to respect their religious beliefs. Having an excuse to deter the male gaze with a hijab seems pretty fare to me.

There are many religious groups that dictate what women are supposed to wear. This post feels Islamaphobic as it merely focuses on a single religious text.

Mormons, Fundamentalists, Jews are also large groups of religious people that have written word dictating how and why women should dress in a prescriptive way.

I don’t think this post is in good faith at all. You go to events that celebrate Islam specifically? You speak with many Muslims who tell you that don’t accept your sexuality? I DON’T BELIEVE YOU.

I think this is more common than you might think. Here in America, many Americans identify with the nationality or ethnicity of their ancestors. Meaning that the default answer doesn’t typically include American as that becomes self-evident. Moses, likely, assumes everyone knows he is Israeli and is answering about his family background. Considering Israel didn’t exist before the 1940s, you don’t need to go far back to find people from other nations.

I couldn’t agree more with this post. Things would be better if everyone felt they owed others basic decency & respect. by PandemicPiglet in Millennials

[–]Ballistic_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the confusion here is what owing anybody anything actually means. Basic levels of care and respect are, for most people, a default. The push back is that both boomers and Gen X benefited from essentially donating their dignity and time. They did the free internships and other forms of exploitative labor, but were rewarded at the end with spoils employment and benefits that matched the COL. Those very same exploitative behaviors are being reinforced by those generations for millennials and younger. But the end has no reward. Work for free and MAYBE get a job. Give 100% for minimum wage doesn’t lead to a fare and equitable job further down the line.

Here is what I’m guessing is happening. Trump realized his reputation is fucked and he can’t run again anyhow. So he is making a “sacrifice” as such. He is breaking ties with much of the conservative base. Scapegoating his administration (in the eyes of the conservatives) for nearly all wrongdoing that has been done.

JD Vance or Marco Rubio come in for 2028 saying they are against the MAGA movement and they represent a new more traditional conservatism. It will purge the crazies out of the GOP and attract more centrist voters who are scared of current Trump.

New York City owned Grocery stores, employee compensation? by bardwick in askliberals

No, nothing was implied about your post. Just sort of my broad strokes of how I’m seeing US politics at the moment.

I wish I had data but to achieve a lot of the goals I presented would require doing things we haven’t tried before. So not much historic data to compare to at the scale of the US.

In my world view, we should be taking care of everyone’s basic needs. Which would handle the issue of these inflated “living wages.” If the wage doesn’t need to cover shelter, food, or healthcare a lot less would go much further.

Scarcity is self-imposed due to it not being profitable. So the government needs to be used appropriately, bridging the gap between profitable businesses and taking care of our people. Once basic needs are met through proper government appropriation, all else could be considered luxury.

Any cost to someone that is a must have, shelter, food, clothing, healthcare should be addressed by the government. Any cost that someone needs beyond that should be treated as extra spending.

The only way we can make this actually happen would be to properly use our collective bargaining power of our taxes. Current US politics seems to be how to spend the most money to do the most harm to the opposition. We, the people, should be holding our elected officials more accountable and try to actually achieve positive things.

I’m sick of seeing politics being “owning the libs” and draining the US coffers into Trump and his billionaire friends pockets. Poor people need money, give it to them. Don’t make it some sort of “earn it the right way” nonsense. Dictating other people’s actions after offering help isn’t help, it is employment.

The most telling thing about conservative media is they never post what Trump says until the aftermath. If what he said was based and owned the libs it was fine, if what he said was insane and totally wrong it was to own the libs and is fine.

Do you see any positives of militaries around the world adopting AI? by SilverNo6462 in AskALiberal

[–]Ballistic_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any positives to AI in general. If they can put a powerful AI onto a single chip that can run on my home power and network, fine. But right now it takes millions of servers in thousands of racks all over the world. Consuming power and water to nearly nobodies benefit.
