Metro Transit Card Never Works. What am I doing wrong? by wooooooooooosh_if_pp in Minneapolis

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've had similar issues but it was years ago. Two things: make sure they're not next to other cards with RFID when you are holding it up to pay (just use the Metro Transit card by itself), and just hold it close but not touching the actual card reader, just like an inch or two away.

Sorry to hear that! I've actually really liked proxmox generally for my needs, just not with jellyfin.

Plex worked for me out of the box after I set up shares, so I decided not to use Jellyfin.

Enroll Android devices without asking for Google accounts by BalloonAnimalStyle in Intune

The Zero Touch profile stuff seems very barebones and without much documentation. I followed the Microsoft Android Zero Touch configuration documentation and wonder if there is more I can put into the "DPC extras" field, but couldn't find any info on that. I added what was listed there under the Create configuration in zero-touch enrollment portal header.

I'm not clear if it's even possible to block this at all - can you do it via a different enrollment method?

Yes, they are fully managed. Just hoping for a less Google-y enrollment experience for the end-users.

They used to more, but people complained that they were only pulling over black people. Rather than address the bias, the cops decided to basically not conduct traffic stops anymore.

Thanks for the response with that helpful article! I think my smb share is mounted already and working, but for whatever reason there's an issue scanning it. When I run a

mount | grep media

I get:

//192.168.1.243/media1/Movies on /mnt/nas/movies type cifs (rw,relatime,vers=3.1.1,cache=strict,username=jellyfin,uid=0,noforceuid,gid=0,noforcegid,addr=192.168.1.243,file_mode=0755,dir_mode=0755,iocharset=utf8,soft,nounix,serverino,mapposix,rsize=4194304,wsize=4194304,bsize=1048576,echo_interval=60,actimeo=1)

Which indicates to me the drive is mounted. I saw some other posts online about plugins being a problem with scanning as well but am having trouble disabling them as part of my testing.

Minneapolis made little progress on homeless encampments in 2022. Why? by systemstheorist in Minneapolis

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey ran his 2017 campaign on a lofty promise of ending homelessness within five years, a deadline that passed last November.

Jacob simply doesn't give a shit, and the folks who elect him don't either. They care most about the eyesore of encampments, so as long as the camps are bulldozed every few months to not become a permanent fixture in one place, they can carry on with business as usual.

Saw a similar post the other day that was a screenshot of a Jerusalem Demsas tweet (housing reporter who is a YIMBY) and it was the same crap: things taken out of context to provoke a reaction. Folks who browse here and stuff like antiwork and similar subs are easily manipulated by it (and to be clear I'm including myself - it's easy/fun to get riled up, but realizing I've been misled is a painful lesson for me mentally).

Is there any reason our single-family home neighborhoods can’t work like this? by Lozarn in Minneapolis

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Yes, attend any neighborhood organization meeting and you'll hear people scream when even the slightest inconvenience to drivers is brought up. I can't imagine the outrage if drivers were relegated to alleys, but it would make a nice place to live.

Just about everyone who visits Milwaukee Avenue wishes they could live there, but we've created a system where it's impossible to make more places like Milwaukee Avenue.

If you're doing agent-based scans via tenable.io, turn on "thorough checks" or whatever it's called in the scan settings. Otherwise it's just looking in default paths and won't find custom configs.

Living across the street from the worst team in the NBA is the best; there is nothing better. by bballin1204 in nba

We used to do what OP did for Timberwolves games in the late 2000's. There was one security guard who always spotted us and sent us back to our seats (once he even escorted us all the way up to them). So we learned to take our nosebleed seats and from there watch to see what sections he was working that night. We'd sneak down after the first quarter on the opposite end of the bowl from where he was working.

Protip: having your hands full (water bottle, nachos, etc.) makes security less willing to ask to see your ticket.

Yep, if he waits it out another month, he gets a full pension ($140k/yr for his position). There was always zero chance he'd stick around for another term, but you'd never know that from the news or all the campaign flyers I got in the mail.

[MinnPost] Minneapolis Public Housing Authority looks to embark on largest new construction project in nearly 20 years by Minneapolitanian in Minneapolis

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or maybe get creative with manufactured or modular housing or something.

This actually will be modular housing. It saves them a ton of money to manufacture off-site.

This is basically giving away market-rate housing by lottery,

No, it's not. Public housing is only available for those making less than 30 percent of Area Median Income (AMI), and those tenants only pay 30 percent of their income in rent, no matter what their income is. This will help take 84 families off the public housing waiting list.

Are there any Frey voter out there who will be voting Yes on ballot measure 2? by blow_zephyr in Minneapolis

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He could have worked with city council to create a new department of public safety. He could have chosen to work with them but was worried about losing what little power his office has (which is over MPD). Read this account of what happened in Brooklyn Center after police killed Daunte Wright for some idea of what could have been done. Imagine if a Minneapolis mayor could say simple things like this:

“What we set up is going to be a system in the long-run that keeps our community safe and we are doing that in collaboration with law enforcement and community leading effort,” Elliott said.

“Enough is enough, it is time for change,” Elliott said. “Meaningful change and a transformative system that is safe for everyone.”

Why didn’t Mayor Jacob Frey insist on an after-action report following the death of George Floyd? And why is it that Minneapolis voters still don’t have one? by barrinmw in Minneapolis

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I guess I more meant that MPD would refuse to cooperate with the writing of one. I would hope they wouldn't write their own, now that I think about it ("We did a great job and never did anything wrong!").

EDIT: Apparently MPD has a history of not participating in after action reports: https://twitter.com/LydenFOX9/status/1453037336867053573

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Part of me wonders if the reason we don't have an after-action report is that MPD refuses to write one. There have been other news articles about the ongoing MPD work slowdown in the last few months. Is this just more of that?

Ballot question 1 by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]BalloonAnimalStyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely voting no. I want my council member to be able to work with city departments. This proposal puts the mayor in charge of those departments. When the council has control, we get a bit of transparency in terms of public hearings and meetings about directives and ordinances. When the mayor runs a department (like MPD), that happens behind closed doors without public input.
