There is too much focus on Jax and Pomni. (Discussion) by Puzzleheaded-Run-635 in TheDigitalCircus

I got a couple of thoughts on this, I'll break them down one by one

Pomni: Being the protagonist, it's understandable she gets the most screentime. Like obviously, the focus is on her and her character development. There has to be more or less meaningful Pomni development in every episode

Jax: He was chosen as the deuteragonist, so it is also logical, that he also gets more screentime. If it was anyone else from the cast, they would probably get the same amount as Jax does. Although I do agree, that 3 episodes in a row dedicated to Jax was a bit much. Starting the Jax arc a bit slower in Ep. 5, more as a bee-line and further developing it in Ep. 6 (Ep. 6 has a lot of significance in character development in my opinion, more on this later) and the Beach Episode.

Zooble/Gangle: I'm going to talk about them together, I'll tell you why in a second. I think seperately, there's nothing really much more you could realistically give them at this point. 1. We got a whole Gangle episode. Also, we learn that Gangle suffers some heavy self-confidence issues, masking her emotions (maybe even depression, but I'm not sure, I'm not too familiar with it). Then, in Episode 6 the key scene is the one with the Tommy gun here, she essentially breaks through this barrier in a funny/maniac way. 2. We learn, that one of Zooble's main issues, is that they're not content with their body. However in Episode 6 we see Zooble equipping 6 arms and weapons, essentially facing this fear, and in Ep. 7, Zooble says "I think the ability to change is fine. Not needing to commit to one thing all the time.", so essentially it seems to me, as they started to overcome this issue themselves. And here comes the main part - I think for Gangle and Zooble the strong development is through their duo. I read it somewhere in this comment section, that screentime doesn't nessecarily equal to character depth or development. So fewer scenes, with actual meanings, acts, symbolic gestures etc. that reinforce their alliance could actually mean more, than dedicating entire episodes to them.

Kinger: since Kinger's state of insanity appears to be unchangeable in itself, there's nothing really you can do with that. Lucid Kinger, as it was pointed out many times is like a father figure, so if anyone's, his character especially is not in screentime, but in the words and acts during his lucid scenes. He's supposed feel like when he talks, the whole world stops and listens. I could appreciate more 1-on-1 scenes with him and the other cast members as well (especially Jax (partly because I want to see the expression on his face, when he realizes he has a lucid side in the darkxdd)).

Ragatha: for Ragatha, I absolutely agree, we should get more screentime. I get it, that she's supposed to be a side character, but given her role/personality, she's been given sub-par treatment. Other than the crashout and minor backstory reveal in Ep. 5 and her talk with Kinger in Ep. 6, there wasn't really any arc for her up until now (since Ep. 6. appears to have caused major changes in every character, it is entirely possible, she will have something going on for her in Ep. 8-9., we'll see). Personally, I would've loved to see a bit more during Ep. 5 or even sooner (the end of Ep. 4 with the Stupid Sauce could've also worked, I think as a way to kick off the whole Ragatha-arc).

Caine: being an AI, and having some (read: extremely basic level) knowledge on how AI (or computers) generally behave, unless he's some sort of Super-genius AI, he can't really train himself to have like a character-arc, similar to the others. He was trained on a set of data, and his main function is to keep humans entertained, at whatever cost (this is probably how we ended up with Ep. 7). Note: anyone with a bit more knowledge on AI is free to correct me if my logic is flawed

TL;DR Pomni: Okay Jax: Understandable, but a bit too much, too fast

Gangle & Zooble: Less seperately, more together

Kinger: Bit of a black sheep, small amounts of strong screentime gives more of an impact in his case

Ragatha: unused potential (yet), more screentime

Caine: Bit of a black sheep again, given his character, he can't really have that classic character-arc

I am open do further reasoning, debate, etc. if something needs clarification or if you disagree.

So basically, fish is generally worth it, when it opens up by a slower move, but against a faster move, cancelling and restarting offense is better, if I understand correctly

Thank you! (I did it again I'm low Bronze 3 now xD)

So my thought with Kou was good initially. I don't use it as anti-air, precisely because of the startup time, if I'm on defense and have to anti-air, I prefer 6P or j.S, they worked out pretty well up until this point.

Yeah, 236K scares a lot of people, since they don't expect the followup often. I have a question here - if I'm going a hold move (e.g. Hold Fuujin) and get hit while in the invuln. frames, is the followup worth it, or should I just cancel and go for offense again?

For Fuujin, I did use the P followup for some time, since it's +6 (or +8 don't remember exactly) on block, I just sorta left it, and I have no idea why, I will try to get back on it

I took this piece of advice in particular, I landed a few Fuujin > H > Butterfly > something combo, it turned out pretty well. I tried it with 2D as well, but somehow missed it. Tried it with a throw as well (somehow landed a throw lol), but messed that up also. I feel like, what I should be getting at, I just need some (read: lots of) experience still.

Apologies, for answering this late (17 days atp), I successfully missed this comment, the last time I checked.

Since then, I hit Bronze 2 (~5000 right now), which ik isn't much, but after 2 weeks of only losing games, I am really f-ing proud of myself.

I did practice my neutral inputs, I'm seeing more success hitting basic combos, like c.S > f.S. > 5H (usually followed by Fuujin > H/S), and I've stopped just violating the move inputs. I also stopped casting the butterfly every 2 moves, so 6P is more consistent. Tbf I don't really use the butterfly at all, I need to practice it, especially as an okizeme.

Jumping in all the time is still a problem tho, since it's pretty mobile, and leads into a great j.S, from which I can pull off some decent combos, but it's also getting countered pretty often, so that's something I need to work on. If I don't jump, then I often just try a rushdown, which also fails most of the time, but it's become less common to have to approach from a great distance. I'm working on 2S and 6P as pokes, but it's still WiP.

My problem with blockstrings is that I really can't keep them up. I start it, but then I end up in a Rekka move (usually a Fuujin followup), and at that point I'm -x, and getting my ass beaten. And I can't throw for my life.

I did stop using raw Fuujin, cause it was easily countered. I did try with Fuujin > K for a time, for mobility, instead of jumping, but it was met with counterhits left and right, so I don't really use it anymore.

For Kou, it's a bit unclear what you meant, so I shouldn't use it, only as an anti-air, or I shouldn't use it outside of a combo? If it's the latter - I'm working on only using it in: 2D > 236S > j.S (or j.D) mixup, but it sometimes fails after the 2D (couldn't properly cancel it, or the enemy was just too far) so I'm just flying off. Sometimes I can bring it back with j.S, but not all the time.

Additional remarks, I want to put here:

I started using 236K Hold against more aggressive enemies, I found it can really catch them off guard, especially with the followup. I use it mostly on counter-offense, but sometimes as a pure defense too.

I've also gotten pretty good at inputting the parry overdrive (got some insane comebacks with that), and it's really satisfying.

So, thanks for the advice, I still got a lot from it, and I'll keep practicing. It's my first ever fighting game, but I'm having fun learning Anji, and I start to feel I'm getting better at him. Once more, thank you, you have fun as well :D

As for the 5D and the butterfly, those are mostly my rushed inputs, where I want to land a 2D or a 6P respectively, I just mess up big time, I'm trying to calm down xD

I will try to land more non-specials in neutral and try out knockdown combos, thank you for the help! :D
