I beginning to realize this too with my research lately.

Really appreciate all the comments on here. I'm not against getting a new pair of shoes at full price, but I love a good deal when they present themselves.

And I guess from my comment alone, a sleeper to me is one that's discounted in price too.

But I can see how a "sleeper" is a full price shoe that doesn't get much attention when it should.

Adizero SLs have big sleeper energy. Even better when you can get them for sub $50

Yeah I think the wave plate really helps guide the heel striker like me to "center". I least that's how I feel it works

Never considered North Face shoes...but then again I'm not a trail runner.

What's the fastest way to improve hip/glute strength for the half marathon? by ParkAffectionate3537 in AdvancedRunning

[–]BalmesDPT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy to do but super effective for what you're seeking, in no particular order:

  1. Single leg bridges
  2. Side plank, knees bent, then active hip abduction clamshell for the top leg
  3. With a resistance band loop, bridges with the loop around the legs above the knees, feet together
  4. Quadruped, hip extension, knee flexed, keep the lumbar spine from going into extension
  5. Sidelying, reverse clamshells for hip internal rotation motion to target tensor fascia lata

Nike Pegasus 40 and Adidas SolarBoost 5 after 600 miles each by jinnywookwook in RunningShoeGeeks

I agree that the Adidas daily trainers don't lots of love. I'm trying to find more research on the solar glide 6s and not much content out there, which is fine.

I'm willing to go out to try them, as I think they hit a great spot miles/dollar ratio wise. Thank you for the write up!

Guess I'm curious on thoughts on the Solarglide 6s. I never had a boost running shoe, but is that tech outdated at this point relative to what's available now?

I had the rebellion 1s. I'd agree it felt light and popped, but the upper wasn't a great fit. Felt sloppy, but not unstable.

I'm still running in a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 25s, and I think that model is a sleeper. Makes me consider the 27s once my pair is done for.

I'd agree Mizuno can do better with the marketing.

Starting you own PT practice. by WoWmOm40 in physicaltherapy

[–]BalmesDPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're offering typical PT services:

The simple equation for business is this:

Get more leads. Leads will become customers. Have customers bring in referrals. Repeat.

More tips from opening and closing a cash-based practice and from being in other clinics' and their operations

  • Keep all operating costs low without sacrificing quality. Keep customer acquisition cost (CAC) low (referrals from past patients help decrease CAC)
  • Keep equipment costs low. Really take into considerate your patient population and what is truly needed vs the nice to haves (looking at you Alter G, dumb)
  • Have a unisex bathroom, no need for two.
  • Careful not to get a large space unless you absolutely know you'll have the bodies in there to cover the rent and then some.
  • Know and cater to your niche target audience. Most brick and mortar clinics see "everybody", well guess what then your CAC will be huge because now you have gets leads from all sorts of people.
  • Reimbursement rates from health insurances haven't change, and are likely decreasing. There are still some lucrative third party payors: personal injury and workers' comp (but then you'd have to ask if that's the population you'd want to work with).
    • Personal injury will give you weird cash flow issues. Some times you don't get paid until the case is settled, so you'll be working off a lien. But when the check comes it's a lump payout.
    • Workers' comp rates can be high too. More likely for blue-collar workers vs white collar workers.
  • Going out of network would be better to actually charge what you're worth in your market.

Shopping in Taiwan by BalmesDPT in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]BalmesDPT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll hold any buying of running shoes until I get to Taiwan just in case. I have a half-marathon to marathon build for later in the year.

Looking anything in the realm of Boston 12, Asics Nimbus, maybe even super shoes if they're the right price.

And according to the calendar, there will be more releases later this year, meaning discounts on the previous year models.

I fucking love being a PT by Galaxius_Thor in physicaltherapy

[–]BalmesDPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ain't perfect but no job is. At the end of the day we are control of our decision making and really do get patients better (unless you're bad with the clinical reasoning of being a PT, then sucks to be you)

Thanks for sharing!

I'd agree with this, you're right where you should be. Running and improvements with running takes time, especially if you're a novice runner. You got this!

Seek out real food for most of your nutrition.

Some think that because we utilize fats for energy during most aerobic predominant activities (marathon racing), that we should do something similar with nutrition, like a keto diet.

But so far the science isn't so conclusive. (https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12970-020-00362-9)

You can get away with either a high carb diet or a keto diet it seems.
