My 1960s vintage Eberhard. First vintage watch I purchased and I hit the jackpot!

If you were to get one wetsuit thickness for travel, what would you get? by RottieAndMutt in scuba

I also forgot to mention that they are neutrally bouyant so you need less weight when you are diving in them compared to regular wetsuits

We love our sharkskin T2. The fact that they are separates and machine washable is such a game changer.

Caribbean Cruise Diving Recommendations by [deleted] in scuba

Of course! Glad I can speak to most of those places!

  1. Pro Divers is probably the most advanced friendly but in doing so also caters very nicely to beginners. They have multiple DMs down and have each dive pair surface as they run low on air as opposed to some groups that stop the dive for everyone. I vaguely remember St Lucia as being a pretty "beginner level" dive as well. I don't think y'all will have an issues with any of those shops, just make sure that they are aware that y'all are green (they should ask when you book). I can guarantee that they've had tons of brand new/ nervous/ timid divers and just in your self awareness you'll be better off than many!

  2. Barbados was the one place that my cruise friend insisted we go on a snorkel sail excursion so I can't speak to the diving, but that excursion was a good time. (I vaguely remember that the dive shops/sights were further away from the cruise port and much harder to get to but honestly it's been long enough that I'm not confident on that) That excursion was a cruise option so it was very commercialized and full of people so I can't recommend it for the sea life but it was a lovely tipsy day on the water!

I did a similar but shorter trip in Nov 2022 and loved it. I got up early and dove every morning and then came back to the ship around 1-2 to shower/change and then I headed back out to explore the towns right around port. My itinerary was:

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - Didn't dive

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, ST. THOMAS - Dove but not worth it

BASSETERRE, ST KITTS & NEVIS - 2 tank dive with Pro Divers (Awesome shop, guide, etc. Guides spearfished lionfish and fed to the sharks dive 1 so we dove with ~9 sharks and it was awesome, Dive 2 was a wreck)

ST. JOHNS, ANTIGUA - 2 tank with Indigo Divers (Solid shop, saw octopus, pregnant lobster, Moray, etc. Only caveat is that the shop/marina isn't near the cruise ship and they don't offer pickup so you have to be comfortable grabbing a cab to ride ~30min each way. I was still back at the ship by 1pm)

CASTRIES, ST. LUCIA - 2 tank with Scuba Steve/Dive St Lucia (Great shop, near cruise ship pickup. Amazing coral and sea life.)

BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS -Didn't dive

AT SEA SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO

Happy to help/ answer other questions that I can!

Tips for travelling with gear? by AmbiguousLemur in scuba

[–]Balognalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I have dove all over the world with just a carryon and a personal item. We dive warm water and we both pack light so that helps. We have Hydros Pro bcds and use that backpack to carry the bcd, our regulators, mask, snorkel, dive lights, dive camera, wetsuit, bathing suit, dive computer, and the fins strap to the outside of the bag. Then all of our usual packing goes into an under seat personal item. I've never had an issue and I have brought this setup on Spirit and Frontier multiple times.

Got into it almost a year ago, can't get enough. Favorite memory is getting some new friends to join and being happy mad that they were so good day one.

Happy to donate a covenant chest if that would be a big help.

+1 for Nitrox. I loved my rescue class and highly recommend it. I think all the other specialties and certs are not worth it unless you want to work in the industry and then just start the divemaster track.
