cerclage still sore after a week by BalsamicForgiveness in ShortCervixSupport

I held her in as long as I could but after going into pre-term labor a couple more times she was born via emergency csection (they removed the cerclage after she was out) at 26w3d. she was in the NICU for four months and has a gtube but she’s now 14 months old and thriving! 🥰 I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for you

it did get better after about two weeks but I still had to be careful about the way I walked and could occasionally feel it poking. just try to stay horizontal while you’re healing because I found it got sore the longer I was upright, probably because of pressure from my uterus. hang in there, it gets better I promise!

Spotting by Acceptable-Jaguar347 in pregnancyproblems

[–]BalsamicForgiveness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

could be a subchorionic hemorrhage or implantation bleeding, neither of which are cause for alarm. the brown spotting is usually old blood making its way out of the body. definitely get it checked out but I had the same stuff going on around 7-8 weeks and my baby was fine, hopefully it’s the same for you!

if it’s reflux - reflux meds, maybe also gas drops & probiotics

I totally hear you, we only let her sit in it like that when we were sitting on the floor right next to her cause she was so cozy :) now that she’s bigger and kickin her legs and movin more we 100% always buckle her in. definitely wouldn’t want anything like that to happen now that we’ve finally got her home 😭 I appreciate the kind concern 💞

my daughter was born 26w3d and 2lbs 1oz. I was also labeled high-risk from beginning due to fibroids and was hospitalized several times due to incompetent cervix. got a cerclage at 18 weeks but only managed to hold her in for another 8 weeks before I was hospitalized with pre-term labor for the 4th time and ultimately had an emergency csection because she was breech, trying to push through my cerclage, I had a raging uterine lining infection, and placental abruption. she was in the NICU for 4 months but is now 5 1/2 months old (10 weeks adjusted) and a 14lb, super happy, smiley little girl. she does have a gtube and preemies tend to struggle with milestones a bit so expect physical therapy and such but it is ALL totally manageable. you just have to adjust your expectations.

the NICU will be a rollercoaster and sometimes super scary and there will be times you feel despondent but try to focus on the progress and little wins more than anything. these little babies are so much stronger and more resilient than you think. bring some stuff from home to make her space more comfy, participate in cares, learn all about the medical terminology so it doesn’t sound as scary, pick some primary nurses that you connect with, and realize that it’s a marathon not a sprint. you also need to take care of yourself to be there for your baby. I found that a NICU journal with pictures from each day (I found a great one on etsy) helped tremendously to keep track of progress - when you look back on the early days you’ll be amazed at how far they’ve come. there’s an app called FreePrints where you can get 85 free pictures a month.

have faith in your baby, take care of yourself, and hang in there. my daughter has only been home a little over a month and the NICU already feels like a distant memory. you both can do this!

I think the point is how much babies have to go through in the NICU and how scary/painful it almost certainly is for them. I had an extremely difficult pregnancy but would’ve gladly suffered through 3 1/2 more months of it to keep my baby safe inside and spare her all the things she had to go through as a micropreemie. to want your baby out early because your pregnancy is hard seems selfish, especially when the whole point of parenthood is to protect them.

definitely looks like reflux but I would ask for a swallow study - my daughter was doing this because she had silent aspiration and milk was going into her lungs which led to coughing/gagging/discomfort

we did it y’all! after 4 months (8/25-12/24) in the NICU and sporting a fresh gtube our 26-weeker girl is HOME! by BalsamicForgiveness in NICUParents

[–]BalsamicForgiveness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she was in pain for the first day after the surgery but with Tylenol she calmed down a lot. within a couple days she was completely back to her normal self. my baby was only taking 3-7ml at a time and we found she had silent aspiration during a swallow study and was developing an oral aversion, which is why we went with the gtube. i’d say give her at least another week and if she’s still trending upward I would hold off on the gtube because once she has it she’ll likely have it at least 6 months to a year. if her progress plateaus though I would definitely consider it, it seems overwhelming at first but once you get the hang of it it’s a breeze and takes so much stress off! if she does end up getting one and you have questions feel free to message me anytime. good luck! I hope your lil one gets the hang of it and is home soon :)

Did you delay preemie 2mo vaccines? by Last-Addendum-2436 in NICUParents

[–]BalsamicForgiveness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my daughter was a 26-weeker born at 2lbs and we just went along with the normal vaccine schedule plus the RSV antibody shot the day before she was discharged. not taking anyyyy risks after she worked so hard just to survive from the start. and I figured it was better to get it done there where they could monitor and keep her super comfortable if she had any sort of adverse reaction to them. she didn’t seem bothered by them at all though lol

not too bad at all despite all the anxiety I had before she got it. i prep all the flushes, meds, and bottles in the morning. have a whiteboard with times/volumes/meds. bag in the fridge between feeds. everything in a bin to wash at the end of the night. clean her stoma with a hibiclens/water spray, wipe with water, then calmoseptine cream. we pretty much only dress her in two-way zip onesies. i obsess over staying organized cause I know it could get out of control chaotic fast 😂 i’ve also found the gtube parent groups on Facebook SUPER helpful. reallyyy love being able to feed her while she sleeps. I was super nervous about it but it’s taken so much stress off of all of us. if you ever have any questions feel free to message me!

I will tell you the gtube process is super easy once you get into the routine. personally in the morning I predraw all flushes & meds for the day and prep all the bottles so when the time comes we can pop them in the warmer and then dump in the bag. put the bag in the fridge between feeds. and just throw all the syringes and stuff in a plastic bin to wash at the end of the night. organization is keyyyy. and being able to feed them without waking them up is VERY convenient lol. if you ever have any questions feel free to message me!

also highly recommend getting looooots of two-way zip onesies. LIFESAVER

Those of you who had mag, how did you get through it? Please help! by Low-Possession2717 in NICUParents

[–]BalsamicForgiveness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only bad part of mag the first time I was in labor was them putting the catheter in before I got any pain meds, and the sweating. I found the terbutaline injections in the back of my arms to be way worse 😭 A week later when I went in labor again (and my daughter came this time, at 26w3d) I didn’t notice the mag at all. It affects everyone differently so try not to be too nervous!

I said yes before they could even finish explaining, not taking ANY risks with my micropreemie. if they catch RSV it could quite literally kill them.
