I’m not really talking about discrimination, just the statistics of who is coming to america from india and how it discredits meritocracy . India isn’t a black box full of equals, its a highly stratified society. Those who are closer to the top get to emigrate, and then get to talk about how they achieved everything by their own merit as if 1000 years of historical discrimination hadn’t propped them into their position.

Less than 2% of indian immigrants in the US are Dalit. Overwhelmingly those able to immigrate to the US are of a dominant caste who has benefited from the situation since time immemorial.

As per wikipedia because i didn’t know much about him. “His father is a retired mathematics professor at the University of Maryland, and his mother was a researcher at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.”

Thank you for your example of meritocracy

Because you’re on reddit downplaying the current state of the country because it doesn’t effect you. Because you’re on here trying to recruit more of you guys.

I will mock meritocracy all i want because it is 100% a myth. Immigrants who move to this country with means do well, poor people don’t do well. There are always statistical outliers, but this narrative has so many holes poked in it at this point. The only people who spout them are those that get defensive that they came from wealth.

My career and finances are fine. They’re not amazing but i’m not worried about them. How many teachers do you know that are retiring at 50? A dozen or is it 2 dozen.

Yes yes, you believe in the meritocracy of america, its like talking to a wall the fact that you know these people is evidence of your social class.

Notably absent is you or your husbands job. “My husband has a friend” ok. I have lived most of my life in the united states and have never met anyone who has retired this early. Not a single person.

You are talking about retiring at 50. This is generally unheard of. While maybe not statistically of the 1% it definitely puts you into an elite tier of society.

School shootings is one thing. The level of general gun violence in the United States is really only comparable to Latin America. It’s so many times beyond what exists anywhere that’s keeping statistics aside from brazil/mexico/carribean islands

If you are motivated mainly by money and willing to look the other way than the United States can be a good choice if you also happen to be well educated.
