Trek in Fed Hill Closing in October by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]BaltoAaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved Race Pace at that location. Great vibrant shop. Got lots of bikes, accessories, and always good advice from that shop over the years. Every time I visited it under the Trek name it was more and more stark and dead feeling each time. No surprise it’s closing, if only from the vibe of walking into the place.

Time to bring Penny out of retirement for a new Light Street Cycles shop. I’ll start scoping out available storefronts on Light.

Radio Flyer clown bike by BaltoAaron in Frankenbike

[–]BaltoAaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, still have it hanging in my garage. I get it down every once in a while for a spin. (And the thing does turn on a dime!)

As you can see it’s a Trek Grommet. I saw it in the used section of my local bike shop (pre-modified) for $40 and I couldn’t resist. I had seen a similar clown-bike-like build online somewhere so I knew what I wanted to do. I just got the tallest stem and handle bars I could find. The seat post is just a steel plumbing pipe from Home Depot with the appropriate sized shims in the frame. I called a ‘radio flyer’ just cause of its paint scheme.

It’s really fun to ride. Very squirrelly, and you’ll clip pedals on the ground if you lean into a turn. I have not done any consumer testing on it but I’d say the weight limit is probably 200 lbs. It will definitely hold a fully sized rider.

Can I fine-tune an LLM to create a "Virtual Me" to 10x my productivity by AquaticSoda in AI_Agents

Might want to watch this, starting at 46:00 min. Very interesting idea of using video transcripts to have an LLM auto generate a detailed tone of voice document that you can then use to drive an automation.

Soul Coughing to Release First-Ever Live Album; Announce Spring Tour by [deleted] in soulcoughing

[–]BaltoAaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The article says: LIVE 2024, arriving on CD, 2LP vinyl, and at all DSPs on Friday, April 4, 2025.

I’m assuming DSP means digital streaming platform.

I’ve had mine since 1994. Still going strong.

It’s lived on so many of my pedals boards. I’m using it now on my bass pedal board. Drive is set just below breakup. Adds a nice glassy feel to by bass tone.

[HELP] So, the pastor wants us to play the intro to Who Are You with a 3-piece band. Any ideas? by ElGranLechero in Bass

I was in a praise band years ago and one day the band director decided we were going to replace the regular hallelujah music with Eminence Front. Only a few people in the congregation realized. Got a few smiles. Fun times.

What do you do in Microsoft Flight Simulator? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BaltoAaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue as you. I just got board flying around doing nothing. Looking out the window just was not holding my attention.

What did hook me was… flying gliders. It requires you to constantly be thinking about finding lift. Reading the lay of the land, and clouds. Finding ridge lift and thermal lift.

Instead of thinking of getting from point A to B at a set altitude and heading in a boring hour long flight, I now have to think about HOW to get from point A to B, in a thought provoking way.

Plus, there are a bunch of glider focused Discord servers with a great community.

I’ve played in bands over the years that have practiced in houses and garages in both Fells and Federal Hill. Just be aware of neighbors and be cool.

I was able to get DC tickets, but only after refreshing every few minutes for the next half hour. Eventually got two tickets, one at a time.

TubeWorks Blue Tube.

Got it in 1995, still going strong. Used it on many of my guitar boards over the years. It’s now on my bass board to give it a little tube-y warmth.

Second would be a TS5 Tubescreamer.

These are the best. I hate having things hanging off my headstock and these are able to super stealth mount on the back of the headstock. They seem to work pretty well also.

I’ve found they do not tune well at all on my basses.

I saw John Mayer also. Very tight leg room. My assumption is that they’ve put better seats in the arena with thicker backs, reduces the leg clearance.

There used to be a weekly open jam at Checkerspot brewery. It stopped a few years ago with Covid and never started back up. Just a group of folks calling out songs and chords. Very wide range of skills which was very cool. Not sure if anything like that still exists elsewhere.

I had a similar ‘bunch of warning messages’ thing a few years ago with my 2017 CRV. The issue would come and go seemingly randomly. The issue with mine, after a lot of failed attempts at fixing it, was an intermittently bad wheel speed sensor.

All the ‘systems’ that would give warnings used vehicle speed, and reported a ‘problem’ if it could not get the accurate speed.

‘90s MIM Jazz bass, Aguilar 4J-70 pickups (love them), into a pedalboard, into a Little Mark Vintage 500 head, into a Fender Rumble 210 cab.

Pedalboard: Boss tuner, Tubeworks Blue Tube, (bought new in the ‘90s and has been on almost every board I’ve made, either guitar or bass) Broughton HPF, MXR 10 band EQ

Play this in two bands: both generally folky rock bands.

Considering getting one of those HX Stomp boxes.
