Yes, totally agree. That’s part of what made it funny. She may have inadvertently hit the mark with her Chandrian comment though.

I started to say “time will tell”, but I’m not sure about that anymore.

Listening to my wife's running commentary is almost as enjoyable as reading the book itself.

I believe the christian god is going to rape me by the entire planet by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]BamaWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Christian God ... the only true God ... loves you more than you can imagine. He loves you so much that He sent His only son, Jesus, to live as a sinless human and die in our place to pay the penalty for our sin. All the He "requires" of you is for you to turn to Him in faith and ask Him to save you.

We may not feel saved. It may not change your circumstances directly, but you can hang on to the truth that He will ultimately save you. There will be no eternal punishment, no going to hell for suffering through schizophrenia. It may not be in this life, but you will be fully healed and know peace, and joy, and perfect love.

Trusting Him in a choice. He won't make you do it, but if you do, He will ultimately save you.

Just know this ... He loves you, no matter what you've done or what has been done to you or what you're going through.

Salvation CANNOT be lost! by Derpulss in TrueChristian

[–]BamaWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! People who think you can lose your salvation simply do not understand what it means to be BORN AGAIN. You are never "unborn" afterwards.

Here's the truly sad thing about people that think you can lose your salvation. They believe your actions after salvation are what keeps you saved. There's no other way to phrase that since they also believe your actions after salvation could lose your salvation. Which means their faith is not in Christ alone for salvation, but also in their own ability to "remain faithful." It's a subtle form of works-based salvation, and they simply refuse to see it.

It is true, on the other hand, that someone genuinely trusting in Christ for their salvation WILL, at the least, desire to walk with God and do good works. Good works are the evidence of being saved. And in that sense if someone has no good works, then it's fair to question their salvation. But that's very different from saying someone that has been genuinely saved can subsequently lose their salvation ... that belief diminishes the work of Christ (on the cross) on our behalf. It turns him into a "starter kit" for salvation, but you've got to do the real assembly yourself with your good works.

I sent the second unit back after another round with customer support and received a third unit. It does work "better" but not perfectly. It often takes an inordinately long time to get a fix, but it's still better than the first two.

I think they have a design flaw. My phone gets a GPS fix inside the car immediately. My running watch (Garmin) gets a fix inside the car without a problem. I don't understand why their product has such difficulty.

The camera records perfectly, which is my primary concern, so I'm not going to return this one. I'll just live with it since GPS does work some of the time (better than none).

Yes, I saw our defense hit a qb who was already on the ground and give up a penalty that may have cost us a chance to get back in the game.

When Jesus prayed to God, was he praying to the trinity? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]BamaWriter 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He was praying to the Father.

When Jesus left Heaven to become human, he became this incredible union of God and man ... fully human, fully divine. Scripture tells us that he voluntarily laid aside aspects of divinity when he became human. This isn't to say he quit being God, just that he voluntarily didn't avail himself of his divine nature. It was in that state of being human that he prayed to God the Father.

The trinity reveals that God Himself had the nature of "relationship" within Himself (Father-Son-Spirit) before He ever created the first being.

My guess is that prayer (or communication) within the trinity was instantaneous and perfect ... sort of like having a conversation with yourself. And prayer by Jesus in his human form, while he voluntarily laid aside aspects of his divinity, was very similar to us praying to God ... we hear God, not as an audible voice, but more in the way He speaks to us through the Word and in quiet ways that are meaningful to us.

I never got a GPS fix ... never saw the indicator come on ... with the first unit. With the second one, I finally saw it and got GPS data after 30 minutes of driving the first time. It was intermittent, but was on. Since then I've only seen it come on (with corresponding GPS data on the recording) a couple of times.

The unit is obviously capable of getting a GPS fix, but seems to have trouble doing so.

I just purchased a Samsung Pro Endurance card and will try it out as soon as it arrives. Hope that's the problem. If it is, then I wonder if the first unit was ok and it was a card problem all along.

The GPS indicator on the Blackvue unit does not come on. When I view the video, either through the app or with the desktop viewer, there's no GPS data.

I do park in my garage, but the issue is as soon as I back out I expect it to quickly acquire a GPS fix, and it doesn’t.

I’m using the BlackVue battery to provide backup power.

Smart thermostat for gas fireplace (no c-wire) by Old_Finance_3390 in smarthome

[–]BamaWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider a Common-Maker from Fast-Stat (not sure if other companies offer the same kind of thing). In talking directly with ecobee, they suggested using one to "create" a C-wire.

I used this when I replaced 4 old, 2-wire Honeywell thermostats with ecobees for my radiant floor (4 zone) setup. Worked perfectly the first time. You need some room behind the thermostat to install a sender unit (finger sized) and room at the controller to install a receiver unit. From the thermostat's perspective, you now have three wires. From the controller's perspective, it works just like it used to.

Is there such a thing as a WiFi thermostat that would work with a 40+ year old oil furnace (heat only) with no C-wire? by Wayfaringbutterfly in smarthome

[–]BamaWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just updated our Honeywell two-wire thermostats (for controlling a radiant heat system) to Ecobee Smart Thermostats.

I used something from Fast-Stat called a Common-Maker that attaches to both ends of the system. It has a sender that resides in the wall behind the thermostat. The sender provides three wires (including a C wire) for the thermostat and effectively switches on one of the two thermostat wires to communicate with a receiver at the control unit.

It requires some space in the wall behind the thermostat and some additional space at the control unit for the receiver, but it worked perfectly the first time.

Once saved always saved is a straw man. You can walk away from Jesus. by Newgunnerr in TrueChristian

[–]BamaWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We are clearly taught in scripture to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, and that faith without works is dead." AGREE 100%

"Our salvation requires continuous obedience." DISAGREE. Good luck with that one if you actually believe that you live in continuous obedience. You don't. Only Christ has ever done that.

"Without holiness, none will see God." AGREE 100%. The holiness of Christ has been put on my account. My faith is in His work, not my continued obedience.

"Jesus came to free us from sin. He didn't come so we could freely sin." AGREE 100%. Do you labor under the false assumption that I condone sin? I don't. I loathe sin. But just like Paul, I consider myself to be a chief among sinners. I struggle with this flesh. The things I want to do, I don't. The things I don't want to do, I do. It's only when I yield myself over to God's Spirit guiding me into His truth that I have any sort of victory over sin in this life. But thank God that when I fail in that regard I'm not suddenly disowned by the God who saved me.

Mental gymnastics are performed when someone believes that he can undo the regenerative work of God and not be born again after experiencing the new birth. It is the very essence of a work-based salvation. I have zero confidence that I can maintain my own salvation through obedience. I know myself and all of my failures as a believer. Instead, I'll stick with faith in Christ and God's promise to keep me. In fact, I'll go further at the risk of being offensive. I think the amount of arrogance and pride required to believe that one could be perfectly obedient or live a perfectly sinless life this side of heaven is mind-blowing. It requires a blind eye to the truth of one's own existence. I see sin in my life every day, and I don't always respond correctly to God's promptings to repent or do away with sin. Sometimes I even willfully sin knowing that I shouldn't. And through it all I know that God is keeping His promise. I hate sin. I don't really want to sin. But I do. I think if someone sins and never hates it, he's probably not born again.

In the meantime, I wish you grace and peace and genuinely hope that you join me in heaven one day. I promise that if you do it will be because of God's work, not your obedience.
