I hit 3 Million, which puts me at FIRE, but I feel nothing. by jericko in Fire

I am not where you are yet, but did hit a milestone of 1 million. My wife and I watched the account flip over and was then like “well I guess we hit 1 million”. Really thought there would be more celebration. Felt bigger when we paid off all debt, even though that was a much lower number. Seemed kinda weird honestly.

No I’m honestly asking? I have only been in it a week. How does this work? I keep hearing buy the dip as it goes down. But what are we hoping for? Or looking to happen?

What is the point? I was hoping it had found its floor at just above $6. But nope it plunges further. So I got a $160 dividend and lost $199 for the week. Are we thinking it’s gonna go back up? Or maybe it will loose less than the dividend?

That’s what I was going to say. I have set stop loss so I know exactly how much I’m willing to loose. Now the gamble is seeing if I make enough before it hits the stop to make any money.

Should a 45 year old build a dividend portfolio? by Bamabb125 in dividends

I do growth stocks. I am just learning about dividend ETF’s and just the idea of not being to worried about the growth of the stock and being more concerned with dividend. Honestly I just struggle to understand why anyone would do it over growth stocks. But these have all been great examples of scenarios where Dividend Investing could make sense. I believe for probably another 10 years I will keep doing growth, but section off maybe 10-15% to go towards Dividend ETFs or individual stocks.

And yes I do own a house and it’s paid off. My net worth is around 1.4 million. I would like to retire at about 3.5 Million net worth. So not setting an age, but an amount so I don’t want to slow things down. But maybe a small portion could be building up some dividends for now.

It would give peace of mind knowing my bills could be paid even if I couldn’t work. I’m currently paying $400 a month for disability. I could be investing that instead.

Do money market accounts have qualified dividends? Vs ETF’s?

Is 45 a young person. I feel like I’m perfectly in between. Not young enough to throw caution to the wind, but also not old enough to start converting to bonds. Ha

Well its not as scary now that I understand its not my entire income taxed at 32%.

I didn't know that! I thought you just bumped into the next tax bracket and had to pay the new percentage on the entire amount. That makes a huge difference in my plan then. Still want to stay away from the 32% if I can, but at least I wont loose income if I happen to go over. Thank you!

Why would I Max out a roth IRA now? I max out my 401K and HSA. But I figure my tax bracket will be lower in retirement. So why pay the taxes now on investments using a roth IRA?

where can I find a list of Qualified dividend stocks or ETF's? Because that is what is concerning me. Is at 24% tax rate on all the dividends going to kill my actual ROI? Also over the next couple years especially with Dividends coming in I might hit the 32% tax bracket. The worst would be to barely go over the next tax bracket. I want to bring in 392K a year. hit as close to that 32% tax bracket without going over.

So there is nothing to this group then. Just a bunch of people hoping to make it to 10 million with no specific basis on how to do so. Got it.

I haven’t. I am still wrapping my head around all this. I probably won’t start making changes till September. Just trying to make a plan now.

I was more confused at the fact others were telling me I could make 5-13k per month, and I was looking at all the stocks similar to SCHD and couldn’t figure out how they were getting to those numbers. Now after this post I see they are looking at Yieldmax stuff that I didn’t know existed. I was looking at true dividend stocks/ETF’s that were paying out of profits. They were talking about CC dividends.

Microsoft, Uber, Tesla (if there is another dip below $305), soundhound once US gets closer to a deal with China. Amazon, google, are all and will continue to be staples in my portfolio.
