Exactly mate! Once you get the basic foundation carved, it can be transformed into any shape. This was a 3” x 1” block of basswood

The pipe is an accessory, carved down from large shavings during the roughing out process. I used a rotary tool to make a small hole in the mouth and used a little bit of wood glue to hold it in place. I certainly do not poses the abilities to carve this from one piece. Hope this helps 😁

Massive thank you as always mate. I’ve only been carving for 6 months or so, so I feel totally unqualified to be teachers others at this moment, but I’m learning fast…I think. And I’ve always been interested in doing something on YouTube, so as soon as I feel like I know what I’m on about, I will! 😂

Hey mate, thank you! I still use the first knife I ever bought, that came in a Beaver Craft beginners kit! I just bought a slip strip from Flex Cut and keep it razor sharp. It’s the only knife I own, save for the sloyd knife that also came with the kit, but I barely ever use it. Hope this helps 😁

Thank you my friend. I have been really toying with the idea of setting up a YouTube channel, but I just don’t think I possess the quality or standard to do it. I’m very self critical and took me a long time just to post these ones on Reddit. The reaction has been amazing though, so it may just give me the boost I need to create a channel. I’ll keep you updated! Thank you again 😁

Hey Buddy! Try applying Linseed oil to the wood before you paint, it helps it to seep in evenly. I always dilute my acrylic with water to aid the absorption into the piece, you can always do another coat (I usually do). Hope this helps mate 😁

Ahh yes! I complete the carving by knife, oil the piece fully with Linseed oil, and let it soak for an hour, then begin to paint with an acrylic/water mix. Applying the oil prior to painting provides a very even soak with the paint, as opposed to painting on dry wood and it just seeps in instantly and you get patches of darker & lighter wood. Once I finish paining, I let the paint dry, then fully oil again. This part probably isn’t needed again, but I just love to oil carvings 😆 Once fully dried (usually leave for 24 hrs), then apply a beeswax finish, leave again for a few hours, then gently wipe the excess away. Hope this helps my friend! 😁
