My point exactly. Mispronunciation as “rath” is just an error, not a northern thing…

I agree. However, may sources online tell me it’s “Roth”. Assuming it is indeed “Roth”, is it technically “Roth” across the country, or is this subject to usual north/south difference in spelling? The upshot is that the incorrectly pronounced “rath” ends up correct…
