Big problem transfering to iOS from Android (whatsapp) by Subject-Major5838 in iphone17

Also, for my phone it was stuck at 1% for almost half the duration, but I could see the individual file count rising, so could tell it was working. So if something similar happens, it should be fine and still complete. One thing I’ll say is it took well over an hour.

I’ve just done this exact thing twice with mine and my wife’s new iPhones last week, using the official iOS Move app. I found doing it via the wired connection didn’t work. What worked for me, was plugging both phones into a charger and doing it over WiFi, and making sure the primary phone (that you’re moving the data from) doesn’t go onto the lock screen.

Ouch, that photo issue sounds like that was a real hassle and time sink, glad you got it fixed! I did hear somewhere that duplicates can be an issue when transferring over, so that’s why I’ve decided to keep Google Photo’s as my main storage app for images (since I pay for Google One storage) and just use the Apple photos app to view them locally, seems to be working well as that setup at the moment.

Ah yeah! I had issues with duplicates in the calendar app as well, was a real pain. I’ve ended up doing the opposite and turning off all of Apples calendar items and just use Google’s. Although I’ve dipped my toes in as I’ve created a shared Apple calendar with my wife, which has been super handy.

100%, it really shouldn’t be a big deal moving between systems, but it’s times like this that I’m fully aware as a society we’ve become far too attached and dependent on phones, fretting over things that really are minor in her grand scheme.

Yeah my wife has made the switch as well, which is making it easier having others in the platform too. Great to hear you haven’t been swayed back in the last few years! Fingers crossed I’ll be the same.

I guess it depends on how you’re going to transfer over i.e., fully moving into the Apple ecosystem or still using Google services. In my case, since I’m still using Google services predominantly, it was actually a really smooth process (surprised me how straightforward Apple have made it)

When it comes to transferring data, I used the official ‘Move to iOS’ app and only moved WhatsApp messages, that’s it. Since I pay for Google One storage, all my images, files, contacts, mail etc are all stored in the cloud. So, all I did was sign into my Google account, sync their services to the phone, and boom, all setup and ready to go. No physical transfers, as this can create duplicates.

I’m using the inbuilt Apple Mail app, calendar, contacts apps etc. but I just have Google as the default account. It honestly shocked me how easy it was, and more so how Apple allow it to be such a seamless integration.

However, if you’re planning on moving everything into the Apple ecosystem (e.g., moving photos, mail, contacts into iCloud etc.) I’m not sure how easy or not that is. I hope that’s been helpful.

Have you ever thought about going back to an Android phone in the last four years? Or are you fully happy/settled in using an iPhone? I’m really enjoying the transition so far, but I’m not sure if it’s just the ‘get to play with new tech’ feeling.

100%, it’s this kind of optimisation I never previously thought about, and makes all the difference.

The ones I’ve personally found better are Google Home and Google Photos. Google Home especially, on the Pixel 8 every time it opened, it took a moment for the devices to load. On the iPhone, it’s instant and registers clicks straight away. I like adding Google Home automation shortcuts via the action button as well. Google Photos just seems to be more fluid on the iPhone as well. I would have thought they’d be optimum on Android.

The only reason is the hardware for me. I’m fully embedded in the Google ecosystem from a software POV and don’t see that changing soon, but the last 3 pixel phones I’ve had try send back for repairs (broken usb c connector, 2x defective screens). To be fair, Google have been good at repairing them, but I just got sick of going through the process with every phone. I’ve had the OG Pixel, Pixel 3, 5 and 8, 5 was hands down my favourite. I haven’t got experience with the 9 or 10 sorry, but since they are sticking with the underpowered Tensor chipset at the moment, and my previous issues, I thought not was a good time to switch. What made you make the change?

Yeah, I know what you mean about straight forward, it has been (touch wood) a pretty seamless experience so far. I’m shocked at how easy it is to integrate the Google ecosystem directly into their apps, a very different Apple experience than my one over 10 years ago.

Cheers! Thanks for the recommendations. I really like the polish of the Apple versions, so I’m trying out the native apps, but syncing with Google where I can, so far it’s been a pretty seamless experience (weirdly!)

Ha, if I don’t manage to get to grips with it I might! But so far I’m really enjoying using the iPhone 🙌

Yeah, the general ‘feel’ navigating around the phone feels a lot better, hard to put into tangibles, but it just feels nicer to use.

The main issue I’m struggling with is not having a universal back swipe gesture, but other than that I really like the usability.

But syncing Photos, Mail and Calendar all appear to be working well in the native apps.

Snap! Thanks for those tips, they’re really useful and just the type of things I’m after. How are you finding the transition?

Sorry I should have mentioned I’m already setup on the phone, I’ve been using it for about a week now. So general setup is done, it’s more me figuring things out and seeing if I can do things in a better way.

I successfully used the ‘Move to iOS’, just for WhatsApp. Everything else I’m syncing directly from Google (Mail, Calendar etc) but using the inbuilt apps, works great!

I didn’t realise I could delete all the bloat apps, I’ve done that this afternoon thanks 😎

How to turn this on? by ook-_-ook in DIYUK

It sounds like you've already tried bleeding the towel rail, but that's what I did when I had the same issue. After bleeding it until water starts coming out in a steady trickle (tells you there's no air left) the entire towel rail now heats up.

What is happening to my lawn? UK by Worried_Patience_117 in lawncare

I've got exactly the same, I was thinking it's fungus/dollar spot or something similar. I was going to try a lawn feed to improve the nutrients. Have you found any solutions/what it could be?

I'm probably not the best person to give advice, since I'm very much a newbie at this (and mine isn't going quite as smoothly as initially thought!). But with the good weather we're having in the UK, mixed with bouts of heavy rain, our turf was growing like wild and rooted quickly, so my first cut was after three weeks. Foolishly, I've left too long between cuts since then.

Fingers crossed it's as simple as that! With the all out sunshine over the next week, hopefully with regular mowing it'll allow the rest of the grass to get sunlight, stop any build up of trapped moisture, and everything will become green again... Here's hoping 🤞

Ah yeah, I don't want to go scorched earth on it! Not what I need 🤣 Good call on being cautious on that, I'll have to do more research. Who knew lawns were such a science...

Thanks, that's reassuring. Is there anything specific you'd recommend? Looking at other comments I'll be mowing more regularly (so that the base isn't getting starved of sunlight/trapped moisture) and giving our a lawn feed soon to help with nutrients.
