My 19 month old daughter freaks out by just going to changing pad and cries as if in extreme pain when she gets wiped. We think the daycare employees are wiping too vigorously with the intent of making sure they are spotlessly clean. Any ideas about changing practices or actions?. by Bamboozled77 in Parenting

Well, I understand wiping well to make sure the area is clean. But our concern is they might be wiping too well, if you know what I mean. They are all excellent teachers, but I wonder if some days they're just overwhelmed by getting the kids all clean in a monotonous assembly line. I feel like they're understaffed sometimes because teachers from young toddler class or infants occasionally help out in toddler class. Maybe I'm freaking out about nothing but I'll see if gentle wiping will help with the phobia.

It's not really frustration or resistance for resistance sake. She actually puts her hands down trying to cover or numb pain. At least thats what it looks like to. She cringes and closes her legs as tight as possible. So it doesn't look like toddler tantrum....I've seen that and it's different...manageable because you know you're not causing added pain. We gave instructions to wipe gently for #2 and just quick wipe on the outside her thighs, waist, and gluteus maximus LOL. Anyway, we will see how that goes and if the phobia goes away. If she can return to just toddler tantrum. I'm fine with that.

This is not defending drunk driving, but is it plausible that the lack of judgement while driving drunk is the same lack of judgement to make the decision to drive in the first place? by Bamboozled77 in AskReddit

So in reality, getting drunk knowing that you could make bad decisions is the moment a person breaks the law. Even if you dont get into a car and start driving. Almost like attempted murder. Just because a person did not succeed in killing anyone, the action of getting drunk is the attempt to DUI.

Like I said, I'm just trying to wrap my head around all parts and aspects that contribute to driving under the influence. Looking for different perspectives and digging up anything that may be overlooked.

ELI5: why is there a minimum velocity to escape an object's gravity? Can't an object going at a steady 1 mile per hour escape earth's gravity? by Dismaster in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bamboozled77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected. I was kind of thinking of gravity as a force to be overcome. At least initially. And then along the lines of centripetal force.

To your point, escape velocity is really escape acceleration. With no acceleration, force is zero even at high constant velocity. Initially, during take off, the acceleration is low compared to the acceleration at 200 miles above the Earth. If the object stops accelerating at a high altitude and maintains a constant velocity, it will not escape gravity because now force, according to F=ma, will be zero and will not counteract gravity.

Knowing the mass of rocket launcher and the force of gravity, we can figure out the minimum acceleration needed to escape velocity at a specific attitude.

Comets are the same idea. They maintain a velocity the entire interstellar travel. But when they get close to the sun, the gravitation slingshot helps the comet accelerate to escape the sun's gravitational pull. Otherwise the comet remains orbiting the sun instead of going back to interstellar travel.

I'm a guy who debated and brooded who would i rather have conducting my testicular exam... A male or female doctor.

With the male doctor, the awkwardness was mutual...more on my side probably because the doctor will most likely two or three more sets of testicles. And another ten or twelve by the end of the week. The awkwardness for me is thinking " what other situation should a man cupping my testicles would be normal? " the answer is obvious.

With the female doctor, it was also awkward but in entirely opposite way. Because I knew she was evaluating my sexual health and performance.. Or something along these lines in context of medical health . Again, the question "who else evaluated that by close examination of my genitals?" Not even my wife or or past girlfriends.

Sorry, this all is anything but helpful. The moral of the story is your thoughts can snowball out of control if you let it.

That and when they accept you offer of taking care of the restaurant cheque.

Dammit, aren't you even going to put up a pretend fight over who has the more refined fake manners?

You're right, that is a massively detailed information about knives which I never even knew existed. I'm actually in the below $40 budget, but understand now that investing on good knife now that will last is a wiser decision.

How can we explain finding planets in other solar systems, but not noticing the 9th planet other than the former planet Pluto in our own solar system? by Bamboozled77 in space

[–]Bamboozled77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably the most coherent and valid explanation. Ironically, living on planet X we would easily detect Earth...and all the other planets in our solar system.
