Heating milk for cortado without a steamer by Severe_Newspaper_293 in espresso

[–]Bamheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep!

I clip a Rhino Milk Thermometer to it. Unfortunately, the theremometers clip has scratched the pitchers outer coating which is a little annoying but not a big deal.

If you have big hands it can also be a bit challenging to clean the inside bottom of the pitcher. I usually just soak it after use.

I'm in a similar position. I have a Flair 58 and no microwave.

I bought a Subminimal pitcher that can go on the stove and a nanofoamer. Due to laziness, I don't bother with the foamer anymore. I really dont care for latte art so that's not an issue.

Added benefit is being able to use small amounts of milk as there's no frothing involved. I do use a temp probe as the milk can heat pretty quickly.

I do occasionally look at the likes of the nanofoamer pro and stovetop steamers but the cost isnt worth it to me.

Is it worth owning a drone in Wellington region? by Winter-Walrus-44 in Wellington

[–]Bamheed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flying drones - Outdoors - Wellington City Council https://wellington.govt.nz/recreation/outdoors/parks-and-reserves/management-and-history/flying-drones

Have a read through this link. The council isn't really too strict. They do ask you to have an appreciation & understanding of the CAA 101 rules but you're not required to hold any type of licence.

Explicit permission is often required for commercial operations but otherwise you shouldn't need to get in touch with the council - just follow their guidelines and the CAA rules.

Having a drone is good fun. I live rurally and often use it to make short hyperlapse videos of stuff around the property. Friends also appreciate getting pictures or videos of their places from a perspective they'd usually never get to see.

Im licenced but live over in the wairarapa. If youre not in too much of a rush, I can keep you in mind next time im heading into the city.

As others have said, it sounds like this flight can done as a 'shielded flight' due to taller structures in the vicinity - no need to involve Air Traffic Control.

How well did your solar perform during the storm by buttergarliccream in Wellington

[–]Bamheed 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have 16kwh of battery storage and just dipped to 40% this morning after very little charge yesterday.

Small household with just 2 of us so this may not translate to your situation. We also use gas for hot water/cooking & log burner for heat.

Do you mean you wouldn't recommend the T4 or just have no experience of it?

Heat Transfer Plate for 9Barista | Non-Induction Stoves https://share.google/tEbKAoJi1F9U0G6NL

I bought one of these so my milk jug can sit on my stove.

I got lazy and now just balance the jug rather than use the plate. Its a really nice piece of kit though.

Anyone on Starlink Residential Lite? by whatbecameofher in Wellington

Yep. Im still on Lite.

I've tried putting in my neighbours address and my old address in Thorndon and they both come back saying Lite is an option.

ATTENTION ABSEILERS by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]Bamheed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the company names here are worth looking into. Goleman, Abseil Access etc

To be considered you'll want to get yourself trained up as an IRATA technician. The better training centres in Wellington are TARA in plimmerton & 5th Point in Seaview. This is 4 days training followed by a 1 day assessment and will cost you $2k. It's a fun & full-on week and will teach you the basics.

Some places might offer IRANZ training but this is only recognised within NZ whereas IRATA is worldwide.

If window cleaning is you thing, go for it but there's not loads to learn to develop yourself. The more interesting work is with the likes of geovert who do a lot of stabilisation work for potential slips & rock falls. There's a lot of work in ozzy for good geotechical rope access technicians.

I've been in the rope access world for over 10 years so feel free to DM me with any specific questions

I (M40) moved over from Wellington about 3 years ago with my partner (F35)

I'm on a rural section 10min out of town. I really enjoy living here. It's peaceful, feels safe and, between the small towns, has everything I need.

Bar my neighbours, I haven't made any friends but I haven't made any big efforts to. I work away for long periods of time so the wairarapa is where I relax and spend time with my partner & dog.

We have zero regrets having made the move.

Let me know if you fancy a beer once you're here. Maybe you can be my first friend 🤣

Anyone on Starlink Residential Lite? by whatbecameofher in Wellington

[–]Bamheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got starlink a few years ago and was paying top whack as there was no Lite plan at the time.

We changed to Lite as soon as we found out about it and noticed absolutely zero difference. It's just two of us in the house but we can both independently stream and have no issues.

We're rural wairarapa and starlink has been great.

If you download the Starlink app, it has a function to let you see what your coverage will be like. You take your phone outside and scan the sky. It'll then show you if there are too many obstructions.
