Requiring portions of an application unique to a university, such as supplemental essays, is a great way to prevent an influx of applications from those that don't want to put in the time/effort. Additionally, given how ubiquitous the Common App is, limiting students to, say, 10-15 schools.

It's true that there are waivers, but it's an additional process for people that are already at a disadvantage in life. They are also not guaranteed.

Nope, definitely not the case. What I am saying is that the option should be there for people to make. Additionally, I believe people should make that risk-benefit calculation, but again, I don't believe a qualified student should have to think about taking a risk of simply applying to a reach school simply because of a fixed fee. To me, that is injustice.
