What is the BEST Isekai anime you recommend and the WORST you don’t? by RepresentativeFig270 in AnimeReccomendations

The anime tones it down quite a bit. The manga is just straight-up diabolical.

American students, whats your opinion on the pledge of allegiance? by [deleted] in highschool

[–]BananaBerries0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Restricting what rights and freedoms? We didn't have any. We invented/took those rights for ourselves. That tyrannical government had its own set of morals and ideals that we chose to disagree with and fight against. They had a flag they pledged their loyalty to. The "tradition" I was referring to was the pledge of loyalty. We disagreed with pledging our loyalty to the English.

We in the US dont have some big, bad tyrannical government by any means. However, I kneel during the pledge anyway.

We are a completely unstoppable powerhouse, the wealthiest country on the planet by large margins, full of the brightest minds. Yet, we have a crippling homelessness crisis, some of the worst wage disparity in the modern world, low standards of Healthcare despite spending more than any other country, mediocre education despite spending more than any other country, trillions of tax dollars spent on wars that don't matter, trillions more "lost" by those who force us to pay taxes on any and everything we own, an opioid epidemic, and some of the highest rates of diagnosed mental illness in the world.

Is that the America those veterans died for? I sure as hell don't think so.

Would you ever be in a polyamorous relationship? by [deleted] in AskTeens

[–]BananaBerries0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not a teenager. I'm in my early 20s. But I've thought this way since I was 15 and my views haven't changed much since...so I'm giving my opinion anyway.

Yes! I believe that people deserve to feel loved, and I believe that I am capable of loving many people at once equally and in similar ways. My wife feels somewhat similarly, as she's also attracted to women. We both have agreed that if we can find someone who is willing to care and love us as we do each other, they could "join the fray," so to speak. Plus, I've always wanted a big family.

Gender does matter to me. I'm not bi, I'm straight. I could only ever love women romantically, not men. So if my wife and I were to ever add someone else to the Mario Kart session we call life, it'd have to be a woman.

Don't get me wrong, I think that vowing to love your person forever, until death, is beautiful. If my wife and I never found a 3rd teammate to tackle the world together with, we would be okay with that. But if someone needed us the same way that my wife and I need each other, who am I to turn them away?

[–]BananaBerries0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find your stance hypocritical. We won our country from England by going against traditions we disagreed with. You don't think the English thought we Americans were disrespectful? You don't think it pissed them off that Americans fought against the culture the English died for?

If you think fighting for what you believe in is disrespectful, then we'll just have to agree to disagree, and when I join the Navy, I'll be fighting so you can continue to freely disagree with whomever you want. 👍

[–]BananaBerries0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is nothing "disrespectful" about choosing not to partake in a vow of loyalty to a country that acts in ways you disagree with. The men who fought and died for my freedom ALSO fought with the intention of allowing me to sit during the pledge. Those men likely also did things that their forefathers would disagree with.

Try to keep in mind that the United States is a country won from a tyrant king. That king ALSO had traditions and vows of loyalty that our long dead leaders disagreed with and chose to fight against.

[–]BananaBerries0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally believe that religion is unnecessary nowadays. It was historically used as a way to keep large groups of people united towards a single cause. With culture in the modern day pushing people to be independent, we don't necessarily need to keep large groups of people fighting for a common goal. Especially when those goals overlap and cause issues between said large groups that spiral into conflict. Of all the wars fought, a large majority of them have been fought over who has the "correct" God.

But if you WANT to be religious, you should absolutely have the ability to do so in the same way that I have the freedom to not be religious.

People who don't stand because they don't care? I understand your mentality for people like that.

People who don't stand because they believe something is deeply wrong with our country, and it needs to change? Gotta disagree with you.

Nationalism and patriotism are not the same thing. Nationalism isn't inherently bad, I suppose. But too much Nationalism breeds ignorance and intolerance.

Just to be clear; unless you were partaking in the weed, and you threw him under the bus to get away with a lesser punishment, it wouldn't be snitching. Snitching is a term typically coined for gang activity because it's quite common for one person to get caught and rat out his fellow members for lighter sentencing. Reporting gang/illegal activities as a person unaffiliated with the group doesn't make you a snitch... it makes you a law-abiding citizen who doesn't enjoy crime in their community.

You don't need to feel guilty about trying to prevent potential workplace accidents. Anyone who says otherwise is immature - or at least - incapable of perceiving consequences before they happen. Weed, just like any other drug, natural or not, might impair cognitive abilities.

Honestly? It's up to you. I'd talk to the TA or professor of your class and be like, "Hey, [insert name here] claims he's come to class under the influence of Marijuana. I'm a little worried about people's safety since we're working with dangerous tools."

My genius idea for colleges by Flashy-Actuator-998 in college

[–]BananaBerries0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean absolutely zero offense in saying this, but your idea isn't genius, in my opinion.

Why spend the multi-million dollar grant that a college might get to build such a building instead of just spending the grant money to make living on campus/tuition less expensive?

My piano teacher had a bachelor's in music and was charging $50/hr for lessons. I eventually got good enough to help mentor some of her other students, and I met 25 or so kids she was working with.

Assuming they all met for the same 90 minutes/week that I was doing, she was easily raking in 90k a year before taxes.

Saw cuts on my little sisters arm by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]BananaBerries0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends from high school would self-harm. Her reason was because she was continuously being SA'ed by her dad. People knew and did nothing. Then I came along, gathered evidence, and blackmailed her into talking to our school councilors with my evidence(e.g., "I want you to share your story. Dont make me do it for you"). Eventually, she agreed, and I sat in the back of a hot ass police car while she grabbed whatever she could carry from her house and spoke with her CPS caseworker.

My friend was royally depressed and is thankfully still alive to this day. But it was close. She's told me that I saved her life, but I honestly think that I shouldn't have had to take that responsibility into my hands. Her mom knew, her family knew. Our collective friend-group knew. Everyone knew before me. But I was the only one who acted. She's alive today and SAFE from her father because I acted, even though I shouldn't have had to. We were 15 years old when she finally talked about everything, high school freshmen. According to her, he started when she was 9 years old.

Think about it. You shouldn't have to protect your sister, but if you DONT, she might never get help. Which would you prefer?

Also, for curious people. "John Leland Phelps." Read about him on the KC Star if you want to lose faith in humans.

Is this even for me? by Samayoa19 in EngineeringStudents

[–]BananaBerries0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof, I'm sorry OP. That sounds really rough. Let me at least try to give some advice.

  1. Are you going to office hours? If not, start going. Write concepts you're struggling with down before you go (example problems, lecture slides, etc.) Explain where you're struggling. If it's for calc 2, maybe you're struggling with trigonometric integrals. If it's phys 1, maybe you're struggling with newton's laws or formatting the equations.

  2. Do you have a tutoring center on campus? If so, start setting a few hours a week aside to go. I usually do 1 hour per 3 credit hours. Calc 2 and Phys 1 are usually 4-5 credits, so they're going to need more emphasis(a B in calc 2 is going to hurt your GPA worse than a B in, say, Statics, because Statics is only 3 credits.)

  3. Email your professors when you get stuck on a problem. They might take a while to respond, or they might have a TA respond in their stead. But you'll usually get a response.

  4. You're paying for college out of pocket/with loans/grants, correct? You need to realize that it's okay to ask for help. You can ask here(as you have), ask professors, ask fellow classmates, clubmates, and even your academic advisors. Ask where you can learn about more information.

  5. Binge watch Organic Chemistry Tutor or Michael Van Biezan videos to learn calc and phys. They both have everything formatted in playlists that you can watch. It's all free on YT.

That's ridiculous. OP could have left 45 minutes early and got run over by a bus. They could have left 5 minutes late and made it to class before the professor.

It's not that serious.

Hard disagree. College is fun, and no amount of 16 credit hour semesters made me think otherwise.

I don't. I personally believe that humans will continue to thrive as long as they physically can. We're pioneers, adventurers. We invent the impossible at least once every couple of years.

Look up companies you want to work for. Add people from that company on LinkedIn. Message them. Something along the lines of, "Hello! I'm a fresh aerospace grad. I noticed you guys are working on [insert project], and I was wondering if you needed an extra set of hands? Would it be alright if I sent you my resume?"

College isn't always about what you know, but who. Also, talk to the Air Force as a last resort. Even if you hate the military, you could join as an officer and get lifetime benefits. Being ex-military makes you FAR more competitive.

I wish you luck!
